Possible new owner...thoughts?

Hi all

New here today. I've been lurking reading this and that...so finally, hi.

I'm looking to sell my Porsche 993 or part exchange for a Z4C. I've loved having the 993 but its too impractical as my only car. It has a boot (at the front) but you can't get much in it. I hate having to get my golf clubs in and out of the back seats too. Two sets is a real struggle. Next year I'm doing 4 triathlons too so will need something I can get a bike rack on. I've seen some nice set ups here. Tick. Also I want something more modern but with similar grunt. I came from a new TT TFSI which was lovely to be in, so the 993 feels pretty dated being 18 years old. I will certainly miss its beauty and the smiles that come from the engine. My word does it sound amazing

So, now that I'm looking around what should I consider? Xenons don't seem to be too common. I like the m seats with memory + heating. Cruise would be nice. Is the sat nav worth it? There is a nice spec titanium silver near me which is auto, again something else I like the sound of. Not sure on silver as yet. Need to find one with CSL wheels on as the wheels on this one are pretty naff. Reckon with nicer wheels it'd look mint. Black is my ideal I guess.

Hi Dave. Welcome to the forum.
Good luck with the search for your new zed. There's some good ones for sale on here most of the time.

Thanks Carol. Need to sell the Porsche first, or PX with a dealer. 993s aren't the easiest thing to sell

Hi Dave. Welcome to the forum
There are lot of members on here that will help you out mate. They will be along soon! :tumbleweed: :)

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum :driving: ,

If your looking at the 3.0si coupe then your first decision is to go Sport model or SE.

The sport model has the sports seats, firmer suspension, differnt steering wheel, anthracite headlining and 18" wheels instead of 17" as standard and probably a few other things Ive missed. Do you know which wheels the one your looking at has?

As for optional extras peoples views on here will range from "it must have everything otherwise its a turd" to "anything its got is a bonus". When I was searching I was looking for low miles, warranty and full service history, any extras it had were a bonus. Now Ive had it for a couple of years Id say heated seats are a must and the rear parking sensors come in very handy. Auto-wipers and auto-headlights are standard but also really useful.

HOpe that helps

Andy

That's really helpful thanks mate. I guess my wish list is pretty similar. I've found one with nearly all those boxes ticked...but it's silver with crap wheels (IMO). I would probably get new wheels anyway but I'm still on the fence with silver, it's just not black :). It's auto though which I really like. Hoping to test it this weekend

I've found a nice black one but apart from nice colour/leather/piano black interior there's nothing else on it really. It's pretty low spec. Plus, I would need to change the wheels as well. They're not my favourites.

What are your thoughts on the auto? I had an stronic TT which I really liked. I said then if never get a modern manual when the auto was so good. Assuming the z4c is pretty handy too?

Ive never driven an auto but its highly regarded by the owners on here.

Black is my favourite colour but I'd had 3 black cars in a row before the Z4 so went for a change.

Good luck with the search

Hmm, two sets of golf clubs and two people I guess, I think I'd be looking more M3 or 1 series.

Andi.

I went out looking specifically for a black z4 coupe with red leather. After test driving 2 manuals and an auto it didnt take much to make up my mind and I went specifically looking for the auto and found it .. all in my thread linked to above.

BTW Dave, is your 993 a GT2? http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=26630&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=html&utm_campaign=2012-11-7

Oh and welcome.

Andi.

Seen several threads suggesting you can get two sets in no problem? If not, they can walk. I don't like the 1 series and the m3 doesn't float my boat either. Bit too salesman for me (no offence just opinion)

Andicole - nope it's not advertised anywhere yet. Going to look at a couple for PX this weekend.

What's the deal with mileage too? I'm not worried generally as long as the car has been maintained. I've seen a good spec model with mostly all the options I want for £12k with 68k on the clock. Are they pretty reliable?

Welcome to the forum!

Reliability wise there's a thread somewhere on here as a buyer's guide, someone may know it and be able to post it. Rear springs are the most common fault, they have a tendency to crack/snap.

I've never tested it to fit one set of golf clubs never mind two in the boot, but for the type of car it is an amazingly practical amount of space. I've easily done a fortnight away with the missus including wedding outfits etc all in the boot with nothing but a jacket and some driving snacks needing to go into the cabin with us.

The auto is good in my opinion. Nowhere near as smooth or fast as the brand new ones, but it is an older car so only to be expected. Having the paddle shifts are great for B-road fun, then just be lazy and let it do it's thing in traffic! The only times I've been annoyed by the auto box was that it decided to shift down for me (to protect from stalling) just as I down-shifted. End result was dropping into 1st unexpectedly and then kangaroo launching forward when I accelerated slightly.

Thanks mate. Yeah if anyone has that handy I'd like a read.

I've seen pictures after doing an image search on google of people getting all manner of things in there, so clearly it's more than possible. I only really drive myself to the golf club so that's fine. I'm 100% certain I can get a bucket load more than I can in the Porsche.

...also do you guys have the 'official titanium silver z4c thread' style posts? Quite handy so I can get an idea of what people have done with theirs. Call it inspiration

There is the Exclusive Coupe thread ..... But not one for specific Coupe Colours...

Titanium looks good with shadow chrome wheels

Any pics of t.silver with shadow chrome rims? Would love to see that. Love the shadow chrome.

Here you go Herminator. For the right car I'd certainly swap.

Hi Dave,

I play golf and you can (just) get one set plus a trolley in the boot of the Z4C. Not a chance of getting 2 sets in unless you put the 2nd set in the passenger seat and leave your playing partner behind! If they have a bigger car and don't mind driving (my buddy has an Alpina B3) then go for the Z4C and just sort of apologize pathetically.

If you buy the breakfast/lunch I'm sure you'll get away with it.

As for bikes, forget it. The only way I've managed this is to buy a Mazda 2 for my wife (replacing her much loved MX-5) and sticking bars on the roof of that. Fortunately she loves the car..........

I think the point of the Z4C is that you want to drive it. You don't really need all the toys but they are nice to have.

If you had a 911 wide body turbo I'd be chasing you down the street!

Thanks Greg.

Yeah I generally on,y drive myself and meet others there so it's not a major issue really.

Bikes - have you searched on here? There re lots of good examples of decent racks on the back that sit really nicely. I'll be doing that.

Ha, sorry to disappoint. You know the C2 is the best for a drivers car though! Wide body looks hot though
