Possible New Owner - Service History

Hi All,

I just test drove a e85 coupe yesterday and have fallen in love! What a machine.

The car seems generally in good condition (with the exception of corrosion on the 108 alloys) however what is putting me off is the service history. The car is on a 07 plate and has covered 48K however it only has 2 stamps in the book. The car is due another service in a 1000 miles or so which the supplying dealer is willing to perform however the question is the previous history par for the course?

To me 2 services in 8 years seems very low but given the car has a relatively low mileage is this about right for a Z4?

The service history is as follows:
PDI - 22/3/07
Oil Service - 11K - 15/12/08
Inspection 1 - 30.5K - 4/1/11

To me it looks like it missed a service is 2013, but then it has only covered 4.5K a year since 2011 so is it possible the service computer would have not triggered in 4 years?!

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The car needs an oil and brake fluid service every 2 years, no matter what mileage. It is missing the January 2013 Oil and Brakefluid one and another one in January 2015.

The clock symbol should be on unless it has been manually reset without doing the actual brake fluid service.

My opinion - walk away, sounds uncared for.

Thanks for the response. Yeh that was my initial impressions. Seems to be lots of other well cared for examples out there so worth tracking one of those down instead - shame they aren't in Aberdeen. At least it has helped me narrow it down to a Z4 though.

Bergius,

Welcome to the Forum - pre purchase checklist in my signature which you may find useful

You'll find quite a few with this type of service history. The part about the low mileage oil changes every 2 years is hidden away in the service book, so it gets missed and owners just go naturally on what the computer tells them. In my experience even BMW still struggle with the additional low mileage oil change rule.

My previous Z4 had similar missed oil service history and never gave me a day of trouble in 4 years and sold to the first person to view it.

Well in the end my decision was made for me as someone else has snapped it up. I think it was the right thing to leave it as it if I'm honest I'm in no massive hurry. I think I will just wait until the right one comes along and if needs be travel a bit further for the right one.

Shame you missed it but I can see why you were hesitant.
It may have been worth a punt if it was cheap enough but as you say there will surely be another.
Don't want to be a PITA but E85's are convertibles, Coupes are E86's! :poke:
