My wife has received an email from Germany. :D And it looks like she may have a job offer. We would be off to Kaiserslautern for 3-5 years then back to the States. She had also applied for a position near Harrogate UK, but has not heard anything from them.

Needless to say, we are very excited about this. Going to europe has been on our to do list. And of course the zed will be shipped over for our driving enjoyment. :driving: I look forward to seeing the UK as well, as my ancestors are from there. Will be fun researching the fincher family history. Probably start at the pub in fincham. Which is somewhere between london and dover.

Cheers

Update: It's official. The wife was offered and accepted a position in Kaiserslautern Germany. We will move there by the first of august.

And of course being the gregarious sort that I am. My home is your home. Any zed heads that need a place to rest and have a pint are more than welcome to stop by. And I really mean that.

Once again

I lived near Kaiserslautern many years ago. Beautiful area and close to many other interesting places to visit. There are a lot of American in the area due to the NATO bases in the area. Kaiserslautern is usually referred to by the Americans there as K-town but not a popular term with the locals. Many of the locals will speak English but be sure to learn some German if you don't already and French would be helpful as well since you will be very close to France.

I'm a firm believer in assimilating as much as possible. After all, it is THEIR country that I'm visiting. As for Kaiserslautern, That will be a little weird. We would actually have preferred a job location away from so many americans. But one should not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Years ago I lived in Japan. I learned enough japanese to get by, and the locals appreciated the effort. I think German and french will be far easier to learn than japanese. I'll have to invest in a couple of rosetta stone courses. Those courses are terribly expensive though.

I also lived in Japan for about a year and German and French for damn sure are easier to read... :P

Now that my family is moving to Germany. Any and all suggestions and tips will be greatly appreciated. The wife's job will allow up to 3,200 euro's per month for housing. I would think a nice place to live is not going to be a problem.

I would need help and info about cell phone service providers and internet service, television service/sat-tv. What to look out for concerning those services. who gives the best service. That sort of thing.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

The wife and I are now in Germany. we will move into our house mid October. We got lucky and found a home to rent that is owned by one of my countrymen. Has 4 bed, 3 bath, 2 kitchens, a bar room, 3 car garage. room to park 3-4 more in drive way.

This means that I will be able to host any forum members that find they need a place stay while traveling in Germany.
Our home is about 1hr or so from hockenheimring and 1.5-2 hr from nurburgring. It may cost you a few pints to keep the beer fridge stocked.

Just PM me.

As an aside. I replaced my run flats. Ended up buying a set of hankook ventus v12 evo's. I now can drive down the road without looking like I've had a few to many pints. Also bought a set of lm20 blizaks on 17" BMW type 200 wheels. A bit of trouble communicating with the BMW parts man. He said that these wheels will mount up just fine on my 2006 3.0si sport suspension. verification from the forum appreciated.

cheers

Style 200 wheels, in a 225/45 R17 non-staggered setup, will fit the 3.0si just fine (right offset, large enough to clear the calipers). In fact, they are the only OEM model listed as alloy+winter tire combination for the Z4 coupe. They usually come with Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25's.

Thanks for the info. The blizaks could be the 25's. They are the 225/45/17 non staggered. I know that the prior owner bought them at the same bmw dealer i did. But he paid €1800. I paid €600 plus a free balance and swap of my summer set at the dealer. He totaled his e-85 and then got an e-89.
If we have a mild winter I may only get one season out of the tires. The wheels are spotless though and they are €248 each from the dealer. So I think it was a fair deal

Cheers
