So i guess you may have heard that the mayor of London wants to increase the congestion charge to £25 per day for all cars who emit more than 225 gr/km of CO2 from the previous £8. Porsche, with the MPV owning family man and small business onwer in mind of course  got pissed off and submitted a request to the mayor's office to change the plan.

They now responded that they wont change it and so the two sides now seem to be heading to court to settle this. Porsche is now considering submiting a request for a judicial review. "The Mayor and TfL will then have 21 days to acknowledge the request and a further 35 days to ready their defence. A judge will decide if the case can go to court. If the case is rejected, Porsche can appeal."

Porsche is hopeful that it will win.

Very alarming.

I mean the rich guy who owns a 100.000 quid car couldnt care less if he pays 25 every time he enters the CC zone. Hell he can afford buy another car just to go there if he wants. How does that help congestion? It's still a car! And what does a car's emmision have anything to do with congestion? If they really wanted to do something about it why not make public transportation better, install tram services and make certain areas of central London pedestrian and bike only instead of applying silly charges like this. Make the centre pedestrian friendly and less people will drive there. Simple.

It's just a money grab by the government. They try to get away with as much as they can and then decide what to do with the $$ taken. Good for Porsche. I support them.

Have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trams_in_London

Hope Porsche manage to do something with this. Besides the more affluent owners, it'll also affect the £40k Cayman owner, I could have a Cayman but not if I was also paying £500 a month to enter the zone.

Thanks for the links  interesting stuff there. I do think that if done properly trams could be a major help.

I really hope Porsche win this (though I doubt it will happen) because, how long before they try roll this kind of charging out to other major citys in the UK? :(

Dear old Ken up to his old tricks again !!

For those that dont know he use to be leader of thr GLC (greater London Council) many years ago, he got booted out then for his massive overspending,

And like before he has massive spending idea,s, the point is he has to fund it, and what better way than to cloak it as a "green" issue, somebody has to try and stop him otherwise he will as before just take it on further, for those that dont know he has tried to increase the congestion zone to include Heathrow airport (and that would be an earner!!) he wont stop at this,,,,

I hope Porche win, just to stop him taking this further.

Ken in a press meeting had thisto say about the whole Porsche situation: "Porsche should focus their attentions on cutting CO2 emissions from the cars they produce, rather than pursuing this pointless legal action which we will vigorously contest."

So i guess the courts will decide this one. Here's hoping they stop this rubbish.
