Mate of mine is considering buying a Porsche Boxster 2002/3 year. I know a few here have bought them or at least know about them so can someone please give me a bit of advice on a few of the more common areas to look at before he parts with his cash so I can pass on the info to him

Ta :)

I looked at a few low mileage 02/3 Boxster S examples before buying my Zed -in the end i just wasn't brave enough to face the bills
I'm no expert but did my homework carefully when previously looking
Main expensive issues are the intermediate shaft bearing failure and rear main seal failure -as well as well known issues like the radiators ,coil packs and discs and water ingress .
Also worth checking clutch and roof mechanism carefully
Other than that they usually take mileage and age well if properly looked after
Walk away unless full service history and wadge of receipts -better still get a professional pre-inspection or maybe buy off the Boxster forum where these issues have already been sorted and someone else has taken the pain and expense .

This is from boxa.net. I strongly suggest he joins that forum, it's ace!
If he does buy a boxster,he won't regret it......

My only experience of 02/03 boxter purchase is a friend who bought one, his clutch went 3 weeks later and cost an absolute fortune - so one to look out for i guess! There's probably a common clutch mileage, can't say i know what it is though. Porker forums would be my first stop!

Agree Boxa.net is helpful friendly resource .Also agree they are wonderful cars to drive and overall i think its fair to say they handle a lot better than a Zed -more composed in the twisty stuff and mess edgy on poor road surfaces .

Thanks guys for all the info - especially Carol for that .....erm ......... Comprehensive list! :D

I'll pass all that on to him, I'm sure he'd like me to convey his thanks to you all
