Pop out headlamp washers

Does anyone know how these work? Do they pop out with water pressure and return under spring pressure, or is there more to them?
Mine were used today and didn't return, so pushed them back by hand. If they work as I assume, it may be through lack of use.
Any advice? Ta

Had to remove the front bumper cover off my 3series a short while ago , I can’t imagine there being too much difference!!,
But they simply work off the water pressure and return by spring . Nothing complicated that I saw , but they are quite stiff so could imagine them sticking as you say .

Thanks matey. It is actually the E92 I am referring to (just presume the E89 is the same). I will get the WD40 in there and see if it helps.

If you can ease them out, maybe a fine smear of silicone grease may make them a pop out a little easier. I had some photos of them, was going to post them up but I must have deleted them sorry :!:

Good idea. I have spray silicone grease too, so will drench the lot. Thanks for the help.

If they are anything like the E86 ones (which they probably are) be gentle with them!

The is a "D" shaped clip attached to the top of the washer jet that the cover attaches to and the fixing lugs are easily snapped. You can buy new covers for about £15 unpainted but the "D" clip is only sold as part of the complete assembly.

I had one sticking up when I bought my last E86 and it was leaking, so all the washer fluid escaped. :(

Luckily I had a used assembly and Ross at RBM managed to make a functioning one with parts from that and the broken one, but I still had to buy and paint a new cover.

After I got it all working I took the fuse for them out to avoid any future issues, and streaks along the front wings, as it seems they aren't an MOT problem on cars registered before 2009.

Those washers really annoy me, never thought, just unplug the motor. Or will it throw up a code.
Just reconnect for mot.
