Poor Headlamps

The standard lamps on my car seemed to be pretty poor so I swapped them out for some HID,s but it still seems pretty poor, what is the best lamp upgrade part fom a xenon conversion?

Cheers

When you say poor, what exactly do you mean?
light output in terms of colour temperature
Brightness
distance of beam etc?

Sorry yes, poor light output, I realise there is the adjustments on the units but the lamps are poor to start off with.

I too was surprised by the poor output esp when alongside a new merc and an Audi recently after buying a z about 6 months ago (their cast was so ,much brighter, and the reach further)
I'm assuming that older xenons are not as bright ass their newer counterparts !?! but partly the reach is an illusion as your slung so low, try sitting up in the seat so your head is near roof, while parked up, you see a considerable difference- shame u cant drive with your bum off seat lol

I did however recently turn the screws by almost two full turns, so the reach is much better, and haven't had anyone flash me at night and they - were done nearly 2 months ago!

What screws are those stehanson? For extra brightness?

No it doesnt make them brighter!

The screws I reference alter the point at which the auto self leveling is set. which can be adjusted up to make them reach further
**Be careful as adjusting beam levels too high can blind other drivers and the levels are checked on MOT** - You could have them set at a garage to max legal height, or do it yourself and turn back for MOT time. (or get tester to if they 'are' too high)

You can set the position by turning the white adjusters next to the lights in the engine bay (one each side) they are small plastic hex screws so be careful what you use to turn them, and make the socket is the correct size and fits well.
I marked a small dot with a permanent marker so knew how far I had turned them, a small adjustment can make a big difference, so try 1/4 turns at a time. off the top of my head I cannot remember as you stand front on into engine bay whether its clock wise to raise or anti-clockwise- hopefully someone else will post the direction!!

For reference most ppl on here turn them 1 1/2 - 2 turns! 2 is pushing it in terms of blinding others, but it does depend how high they were set to start with! -
Hope this helps

Ah cool, I was thinking that the beams don't tend to go that far :P

Thanks for the info, I'll definately be looking into it!
