Just out of interest, when my warrant expires I am wondering whether to re new it, I know insurance companies play on the fear factor, but i wondered if anyone has actually benefitted from it year on year, by getting back more than they paid, be interesting to see if the figures generally stack up
 
I always have extended warranty for my all BMW. Peace of mind. But so far I think I am out of pocket.
 
Hard to say I have extended mine in December when 3 years old and had a new O2 sensor and two rear springs (only one snapped) and four new alloys.

The alloys were done under good will, and no doubt the spring would have been at 3.5 years old and 26K. So just an O2 sensor. 5 months to go though.
 
RustyZ4, I say a lot depends on how reliable the car has been up to press. I would have definitely renewed on my Z4 as I have around £4k of warranty work done on it, but on the SLK it has been such a good car I never renewed it (touch wood!!).

I've probably had £500-£600 worth of warranty work in the last 6 months, and I've got 6 months left on the warranty, so I'd say yes so far. However, if I'd gone for the £250 excess policy, I'd be out of pocket as all my warranty work has been little stuff worth £100-£200 a time.

It's also worth noting that if everyone had warranty claims to the value of their policy then the policy premium will go up, so you actually want the majority to have not claimed.
 
Never had a problem with mine in 35k, but still have the extended warranty.

It's catch 22, if you cancel it, something will probably go pop
 
I never renewed mine when the auc ran out... so far only things that have gone wrong would not have been covered anyway so it would have been a waste of money.
 
Did not renew. I have it on the X5, and I did not brake even. Too many exclusions and own contributions for wear and tear.

Gamble, but the M is not a daily driver so the huge amount of money to be paid each month when I might only drive a couple of days is just not worth it.
 
Wasn't it about 2003/4 or maybe a little earlier that BMW warranties increased in price markedly? Before that they were good value, not sure now.
 
I've just bought a 2004 Z4 2.5i. Although it has low mileage, I am excited to have just bought it and keen to ensure that it is looked after. So, I though about buying into an extended warranty. The site I've found for BMW extended warranty is http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx. Is the this the only and best place to get a BMW extended warranty?

Ive had the following done under extended warranty:

1) New Sat Nav module (must be hundreds)
2) New roof straps
3) New wiper arm

Currently battling for new flogs(misted up) and rattlings wind deflector to be replaced....

So yes - just for the nav alone...

If you can afford to buy just buy it, it is piece of mind. I'm on my third year of extended Warranty my car is just over five years old. Brought new.
 
This is a very pertinent thread for me as my warranty expires in October and so far I've had a few niggles under warranty and a pair of rear 108s :wink:

Who did everyone go with to provide the extended warranty? Is there a standard provider that BMW use?

Get your claims in ASAP since the 3 year warranty is more inclusive than the extended one and wont cover such things as wheels etc....

I went with BMW direct, least vauge - they use Mondial assistance

Mondial huh? Re the wheels, I have the car booked in on the 10th to sort them, just a shame they won't do all four, but the only thing wrong the front two is the nearside one has some kerbing. Will get the front two refurbed to the same colour as the rears once replaced.

Only thing I have to bear in mind is that the dealer will probably suggest I replace the rear tyres at the same time as they're getting ready. Just don't want run flats on again and I bet they won't put normal ones on.

If you can afford it get the BMW one. I'm into my second year with it and its been worth every penny.

Up until this week i'd say i've had slightly more back than i've paid in, todays was a biggy unfortunately so i'm probably quite far in front now.

I pay for the fully comp policy along with breakdown cover with a £100 excess.

The service from the dealer and warranty people has been superb and based on my experiences today i'm 99% certain my next car will be another BMW.

This might be of interest to people too but when i went and asked my friends in Trading Standards about third party warranties they cracked out laughing and said "they're not worth the paper they're written on". They did say if i had the chance to extend the manufacturers one then i should do that.

Took it out on mine, though don't just take out the standard ask some questions. I ended up with the comprehensive package minus the recovery option as I'm already in the RAC for £324, original quote from BMW was nearer £500
