One of the jobs on my list (for the past 2.5yrs ) is to tidy up my brake calipers. I always thought I'd do them simple black (as I've already got lots of black smooth hammerite left over from other projects), but since fitting my yellow/black interior I've been wondering about something a bit different.

I've seen a couple of photos on the forum of black calipers with white "BMW" decals on them and thought they're smart without being OTT. But I've now found a place (thanks to KERMIT1970) selling coloured heat-resistant vinyl letters and am tempted to do something different...

At the moment my thoughts are either black calipers with white lettering, or black calipers with yellow writing (to tie in with my seats). But I've thrown yellow with black in the mix as a leftfield option. I'm not sure if introducing ANY yellow (or even any decals) on the calipers is OTT and possibly seen as a touch chavvy? Personally I like the idea of the letters, not quite convinced on yellow calipers...

What does the forum think?

Cheers

Paint them but no decals.
Frankly the paint has a tough enough job, but decals will soon darken or discolour and imho look wrong.

Yellow paint ! Black decals ! Go on Ally do it ! What's the worse that can happen ! Paint them again ! Keep the rust away ! Had a Gsi years ago with yellow calipers ! Looked good !

Stand back from the yellow.... In all honestly Ally I would do them red.
I'm just not a massive fan of red calipers unless it matches into something else on the car (this is my thinking behind yellow calipers to tie into my seat colour)

The decals I have in mind are these heat resistant ones and if you believe the sales pitch there should be no issues with them peeling off. I accept the lettering will end up covered in dirt/brake dust but I'm pretty anal when it comes to cleaning  and would keep on top of it.

Absolutely no offence intended so don't take this the wrong way, but that's exactly what's putting me off yellow calipers: the GSI comment!

It was Dreamer's black calipers with white decals that got me thinking about the decal idea - I don't think it screams out AFTERMARKET that much:

Sod it, yellow is off the options list - just got to decide on white decals, yellow decals, or no decals.

Hi Ally my Cav GSI one of the best cars i have had & theirs been a few ! NO offence taken ! lol

Don't go red just wont look right with your colour scheme and can look a bit chavey if it doesn't tie in with anything else on the car like red seats.

Personally i go for Black with yellow letters and at the end of the day if you dont like it just peal off the letters then you have just non offensive black calipers.

Just done mine in silver, with Nooooooo decals. Stop being a chav :poke:

I still think yellow would work. It would be like marmite though - people would either love it or hate it!

I'm planning in going silver or red next month when I'm replacing my brake pads.

You can't do them red IMO....your car's going to look like the condiments in the centre of a cafeteria table!

Decals - chav looking???? Now painting them red - thats chavvy :poke:

And mine havent peeled or faded in 2 years now despite track abuse. Just remember to do a good few coats of lacquer

That comment made me chuckle. :D

Yeah don't worry, I've never had any intention of doing mine red even before I added the interior :D

Still undecided!!!

Dreamer - what lacquer did you use over the decals? I'm pretty sure the stuff I have left over from doing my rear lights isn't heat resistant...
