Polish out or respray?

Recently my wheelie bin fell in to my Z with the heavy wind and caught the rear bumper of the car. There's a few light scratches which I think will polish out but what I'm not sure about is the black graze from the bin. I know it's hard to tell from photos but what do you guys think?

It's a weekend car (probably more like fortnightly / monthly in reality) and it's time's like this I'm starting to wonder what's the point. £500+ on a set of tyres, £300+ road tax, the alloys are starting to corrode and will need refurbing and now this. All in a month. :evil:
 
Hmmm I dont think that black bit will polish out looks like its right through the paint.
 
Yeah thought as much. :(

I wonder if I could get away without a full respray....

Any rough ideas on cost? I'm going to give Chips Away a shout now.

Is the black bit of the wheelie bin? its hard to tell by looking at a photo, from the position of the marks I think it may well be. Id get some p3000 and using a sanding block wet sand the area, they get a good compound (you can not go far wrong with G3 after wet sanding) and see what the results are.
 
As a guess, somewhere between £60 and £80 for them to do a smart repair. It will depend on the company and the level of work required though of course.
 
Had a slight larger area on the wife's car bumper repaired recently by Chipsaway - cost £132 incl VAT. Guy who did it was Simon Atkinson (Chipsaway local to Lincolnshire area) on 07964 688387. I would try synthedup's route first, if the mark is still there give Simon a ring?
 
Just had my local ChipsAway guy come out and have a look and he's quoted me £156 inc VAT. Quite surprised as I emailed 2 local places who quoted me £180 and £215. The lifetime guarantee is reassuring too.

Tempted to have a go myself but I don't have any sanding blocks / drill attachments / paper etc and from a quick Google they're not cheap!
 
Wow that's gone up quite a bit since I had quotes a few years ago on the other half's car. Still, less than a full bumper respray. I wouldn't attempt it yourself unless you know what you're doing, its not just the finish you risk but also how long it will last.
 
My girlfriend reversed into my house at the weekend. Dont ask... but damaged her N/s rear corner of the bumper. The paint shop I use are very very good and quoted £125 all in. Your price seems high buddy.
 
Should be able to get a full bumper respray to a good standard for around £150 (up north anyway)
