Pokemon Go

Two teenagers playing Pokemon Go late at night in their car in Florida were shot at by a householder who mistook them for burglars, police say.

The man said he shot at their car after they refused to stop when he challenged them on Saturday. They were not hurt.

He said that earlier he had heard the pair say "did you get anything"?

Police in Florida have used the incident as an opportunity to issue guidelines for teenagers and parents on safely playing the game.

I love that the police give advice on safe playing of Pokemon, rather than telling the gunman how inappropriate it is to randomly shoot at people.

Walking through my local village yesterday I saw 4 adults (guess mid 30's) all staring at their phones at arms length which I though was odd but possible.

It was only when I passed that I heard one of them say there is a Pokemon gym round the corner.

WTF ! Seriously

It's all getting very silly...

Haven't these people got anything better to do, such as reading about the trials and tribulations of z4 ownership?

Its getting kids and adults out the house, its getting the overweight out and moving, I saw an article where a morbidly obese guy walked 10k without actually realising it (murica), this is also bringing people together. So what if people are wandering around on their phones, isnt that better than sitting in the house staring at the tv on your arse?
Most gaming takes place in the house, on a chair in front of the TV, this gets people out, the whole aim of the game is to be out and walking/running/cycling. Given how fat we have all become I'm all for it.... now if you excuse me there is a pikachu across the road :|

If you think Pokemon Go on your phone is bad, just wait till they put Super Mario Kart on your SatNav

Every one at work received this e-mail from our IS security team yesterday. Made me check it wasn't April 1st. World has gone a bit mad. :D

Pokémon Go Security Risk

Ongoing press activity has focused on the new augmented reality Pokémon Go game, which requires players to find Pokémon characters at various locations throughout the UK and overseas by using Smart Phones/Devices with GPS connectivity.

Several news stories have articulated the personal security risks players may face whilst playing the game. These include physical harm as well as the potential for privacy security risks concerning the application permissions, or faked application downloads. Due to the popularity of this game several Governments are now raising concerns regarding operational security (OPSEC) for military and security personnel.

It has been reported that some Pokémon characters have also been located near MOD establishments and other secure/sensitive locations; recently Leicestershire Police was flagged as a location which prompted a police warning to the public to be mindful with the current security threat status.

All staff, and in particular security and guarding/facilities staff, are to be mindful of the threat that this activity poses to our security and the possibility that it may lead to an increase in the likelihood of unauthorised persons trying to access site/buildings.
In addition it may lead to an increase in concern (or reporting) of persons conducting hostile surveillance of our facilities.

Proper vigilance is to be maintained at all times focusing on any suspicious or unusual activity taking place on or near our sites and, where this is suspected, then the appropriate challenge is to continue to take place.

This also serves as a timely reminder that staff must follow their respective Company or Customer site/building Policy which may stipulate prohibition of Image Capture Devices, disabling of location services and PED Zoning.

Any reports of Pokémon locations in/near ### sites (or any unusual activity associated with this) should be reported to your ### site security POC, and the ### Service Desk on ###, or ### (if you are outside the UK).

We got a similar announcement on the client's intranet, banning it from site lol.
Which is a shame as I find it a good reason to go for a walk :)
