Plumber costs

Perhaps I am out of touch what the current post-Brexit / Post Pandamic plumber rates are, but for a local plumber to fix my mother in laws dripping bathroom sink tap to charge £363 ??

I googled the tap, it is £85 for a new one.

I just fixed the two in my bathroom sink, bought replacement brass inserts rather than new washers for about £15 a pair and replaced them myself in 10 minutes.

I'd be asking the plumber for a breakdown of the bill, that sounds seriously over billed and he's taken advantage. I take it there was no emergency call out?

No emergency call out (had been slightly dripping for 6 months or so).

Call out was already £102 alone.

There is no isolation valve visible in the bathroom (never understand why not ever tap has one underneath though, every tap I had installed has an isolation valve so I can easily take it apart without draining the whole tank)

I've just had the filter cartridges changed on the bathroom basin taps with new tap collars which came to £103 all in which I thought a bit pricey but 100s no way.

I'm a plumbing and heating engineer, to repair dripping taps I'd charge £65 plus VAT plus the price of the cartridges. £363 is just seriously ripping some one off and boils my piss :thumbsdown:

Sounds way over the top - they will take advantage if they can, not certain how you can get any money back unless you can do charge bacon a card

When you say it was to fix a dripping tap ? so it cost the plumber 12p for a new washer and £351 to fill the Rolls up :lol:

Breakdown is £102 for call out which includes 1 hour, however only a picture was taken of the ideal standard tap to check for spares.

Second visit at £135 labour and the rest tap.

I authorised the first as assumed it would be fixed with a ceramic insert. Mother in law dealt with the rest.

That's a serious over charge, pvr.
Definitely wouldn't be paying that much if I were you.
As Jamesditchy said, around £65 plus vat and cartridges costs would be around £100 ish quid.

You're not too far south are you Pvr?
Obviously even with the southern higher costs of tradesmen, it would still be around £100 at least cheaper than that
