Plugging brake lines

Need to change my passenger side front caliper. What's the best way to plug the line whilst swapping them out?

You can buy brake line clap tools. Or see it as a good time to change the fluid if its not been done for a while?

Some people use mole grips. But some also say that can damage the line??

Yea I don't really want to go down the route of line clamps, have heard to many stories of them cracking lines etc. my car is getting it's Insp.II next week so the fluid will be changed then. Is the line an NPT thread? Perhaps I could get a plug?

Clamps do not break brake hoses unless the hoses are on the verge of self destruction. You will be fine.

Proper tool for less than £10 I inc. shipping on Ebay
G clamp is another good alternative which I've done dozens of times without issue

By the time you take the caliper off, then mess around finding and fitting a nut, you'll have lost so much fluid on the floor and allowed air bubbles to leak in.
Not a good idea.

I wouldn't worry too much about air getting in, after all, you're going to bleed it when the calliper is refitted!

Call into a motor factors and buy a nut for the flexi and put a rubber bung in it! Or as cj says buy a clamp tool.

I've heard it's worth putting cling film over the reservoir then putting the cap back on to slow any flow during the change.

I've just noticed it's only a calliper swap - so you will spend more time f4rting about plugging / clamping than just being ready to bung the replacement straight on.

Don't bother, just bleed the full system afterwards. 1.5litres of brake fluid isn't that expensive. Just depress the brake pedal whilst you're doing the job and air will not enter the system

The fluid will be fully changed next Thursday when it's in for it's insp. II. With it just being a swap,
I'll hopefully get away with being really quick and then just bleeding that caliper.
