Pleasure then pain!

Where there's pleasure there's pain they say, only a week ago got my Z back with refurbed 108s, looks even more gorgeous than before. Was super excited to get tax as she's SORNd when the coolant light came on after starting. Arghh!
Checked it out and the coolant tank was bone dry. I filled it up and let her run, there were no leaks at first but after 10 mins I could see liquid under the engine, passenger side. Most of the liquid was caught in the under tray but I struggled to see where the leak was coming from. Reading through the forum I assume it's a cracked expansion tank so I'm going to buy a new tank and get my friend to help fit it.
Any recommendations on the best place to purchase from at a reasonable price? I'll look around myself but always happy to take sound advice.

Just typical eh,

Many thanks,

I bought a genuine BMW one as it wasn't actually too expensive (£70 I think). Surprised your coolant warning light didn't come on if the tank was empty. Overheating can absolutely annihilate these blocks from what I've read.

Think I've been lucky, the garage where my wheel work was done is only a 10 minute drive away so probably not far enough for the light to come on. When I started it up today though to move cars around it was bone dry so came on, I've not been anywhere since. My thoughts are that having it off road over the winter hasn't done it any favours. A touch frustrating as it delays my next projects...new springs and calipers :headbang:
Good to hear that the part may not be excessively expensive though.

Did this myself a few months ago (posted on here somewhere). I definitely recommend a genuine BMW replacement as you just cannot be sure of the longevity of half price pattern parts. I would also advise, if you have an auto gearbox, that you have to be very careful not to damage the auto box coolant supply thermostat at the base of the expansion tank. It's another £68!

Mines a manual so no added worries this time thankfully, I'll see if Ivan dig up your thread though, thanks midhurtstman.

GSF do them for around the £65 mark for an OE Quality one with free delivery.
However if you use the code WEB40 you will get 40% this weekend
