Please Hep!!

I hope someone can offer any suggestions?

I have just drove the car 50 yards or so, when pulling out of a junction, it suddenly felt like I had put it in 4th gear instead of 2nd.
Car is vibrating - almost feels like a flat tyre/damaged alloy (it isn't), I can actually feel it. Loss of power, yellow engine warning light on the dash.
I turned round and parked it safely outside the house.

Has anybody had this before? Any ideas as to what it could be? Car was running great last night - no issues at all.

Many thanks in advance.

Spark plugs/coil perhaps

Yup sounds like it's not firing on all cylinders whole, bunch of thing it could be, from fuel starvation to faulty sensors. Check the above first.

I would also check if an intake hose is split, mine had and it felt lumpy and sluggish. However the orange management light had also come on.

Hi, you need to get the codes read otherwise everybody is just guessing what the issue might be.

Hi

I had a similar problem last year. It turned out I needed one new coil.
I was away from home and called the AA out. They had a spare coil
onboard which they fitted and the car was fine after that. They charged
me £30-35 for the new coil and it was very very easy to replace. I was so impressed
With the AA service I bought another one as a spare and carry it in the boot.

Agreed the first step is to check what the problem could be using an OBD2 reader to pin point the issue. However, I am inclined to believe it is an ignition coil matter. Only thing is to check with one and how many are affected.

Thanks for the responses guys. Aint it typical - the sunniest day of the year and no car to enjoy it! To be fair, I have the roof down always unless it's raining, so no biggie, but still!! :D

I drove it a short distance to my local garage for them to take a look tomorrow. It was just the same, although didn't seem >as< bad as it did yesterday?
The vibration seemed worse as the revs got higher, so basically kept revs as low as possible...

Fingers crossed!

Will let you know the outcome...
Cheers John

Just to update.

Thanks to all who offered possible solutions - they helped calm my nerves :D

Got the car back today - totally sorted and back to full health.

The issue? A pencil coil - otherwise known as ignition coil? Only £60 all in including fitting and diagnosis.

Happy days!

John

Always a shocker the first time the engine goes into limp mode! Good to hear it got sorted.
