Hoping some of you lovely people can help rescue my car...

I've recently bought a z4 3.0 2004 se. An I love it!!
It's Got 145000 miles on clock, but I got it cheap and intend to keep it. Business stereo, cruise control, heated seats, mfs... Silver with 18' M-wheels.

All Worked perfectly until the temperature dropped and it now stalls first couple of times when it gets bellow 12oc. After that it'll run fine the rest of the day...until the next morning, or been sat for hours in cold weather.

When I start it it'll run, revs @ 1000 then conk out after 15 seconds... Same again following time, revs maybe 1200 slowly coming down and conks out, until te 3rd or 4th time, and run fine from then on? Absolutely no problems when weather warmer.

Sometimes I've had the handbrake warning light come up and traction control. Restart it and goes away, runs fine all day.

Please anyone had this issue before?

I've had the DISA done this week, icv cleaned, garage couldn't find a air/vacuum leak... Now thinking of having my DME re-programed/flashed, and clean up of the MAF sensor.. Other than that I'm outta ideas :-(

Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

MAF is certainly a possibility.

Had this conking out randomly with a Porsche last year but not always from cold usually. It waited until you changed lanes at 69.9mph and then cut out!

Was the MAF but took a lot of diagnosing by an expert who drove it about for 2 weeks to reproduce the problem. Sometimes happened from cold but often in full flow. I say often - 3 times and then it was too dangerous to drive so got it fixed and sold and got a sensible car - a Z4.

Oz-boz I have exactly the same problem. Z4 2.2 120k miles
On cold days, 10C or less, and 12 to 15 seconds after a clean start it cuts out
Did you get a solution?

My stall problem started at the end of last winter, was OK over the summer and now returned.
I get the Engine and DSC lights at cutout. I can always here a relay click just as the cutout happens.
Why the DSC light? That comes on at cutout even when the car is not moving or if I switch DSC off beforehand.
A couple of times on the third restart it has actually refused to fire up with a flashing orange engine warning light, turning over fine, but I assume no fuel flowing then on restart it was back to "normal" again. But that is the exception - on all other cold starts it is perfect until the cutout.
If I drive off it will cut out and bump start as I drive along 3 or 4 times until it warms up a bit, then all is perfect until it has cooled down again.
Independent garage could not fix it.
Andy ideas?

I'm happy to say I did get it fixed, now works without issue.

I had the dme re-programed/updated to the latest software. That was it. Never a problem since.

I got my local bmw specialist to do it... Think it was £60.
I think you could even get BMW to do it for you for less than 100 bucks.

Hope that solves your problem Andy.
