Please help, I’m confused

Hi, my name is Durham and I acquired a 2003 z4 3.0i 6MT about 4 months ago. now I have some money saved up for mods, but I am very confused and lost as to which headers I should get for my m54. I was considering the ones from racing dynamics but I’ve heard both good and bad things about them. I have a mutual on TikTok who put them on his z4 and had no issues but others have said they are just overpriced eBay headers with slightly better quality control. Additionally, it’s harder to find good information now as a few good brands have shut down like bimmer brakes and bimmer brothers. So my question is: are active autowerks headers worth the extra $100 ish or should I seek a reputable seller priced around 200-300 and if so which sellers are good? I’d like some that bolt up to the stock exhaust and would be compliant with a rematch Motorsports stage 3 tune. Any recommendations and input are greatly appreciated, thanks for reading :)

I am no expert on this but, as I understand it, what you should be looking for is an understanding of what configuration suits what you want. Depending on whether the manifold (header) is 6 into 1, 6 into 3 into 2, etc etc affects what they do for you. There'll be one configuration that might give you great peak power but at the cost of mid range torque which would help on track but negatively impact day to day driving.

Who makes it becomes secondary to that; it is just tubing at the end of the day.

BMW don't really do restrictive exhausts so the biggest stock limitation probably cats. Putting 200 or 100 cell converters will probably make more difference than just a fancy header.

As I said, no expert, but I'd want to understand what they do for me rather than buying a name.

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but welcome to the forum.

I’m looking to get some 3 into 2 headers. And normally I would agree that BMW manifolds typically flow well but in this case they are a lot style manifold which is quite restrictive. I’m more so looking for advice on what brands are reputable
