Please don't laugh - its a Skoda

Thinking about changing our daily runner - its a 04 Reg Fiesta we've had from new - 35k miles from new - never let us down - because of my ocd still looks new ! Looking for another 5 door - could go for another fiesta but they're not cheap - a basic 5door is over 10 grand compared to the £7.5k we paid for ours in 2004. Looked at a basic Clio but not that impressed - that is a grand off at the mo for £8700. Not that bothered about spec - all we want is a CD player and central locking so quite happy to stick to base models. After falling about laughing when someone suggested a Skoda went to see the new Fabia who have VAT off as a promotion - a new base model with the better 70bhp engine comes in at
about the same as the Clio and comes in a really nice red. Seems really well built and has excellent reviews. Even the salesman could recite most of the Skoda jokes !!!! as always though part exchange prices offered were crap - lowest £1600 so would definitely sell privately.Anyone got a Skoda experience????????????
 
Nothing wrong with Skoda's nowadays - they've been good cars since around 1999/2000 or so. There's so many shared parts between the VAG group cars: Skoda, VW, Audi, etc - plenty of Audi stamps on components on my parent's Octavia TDI that they've had for 11 years and 90k miles, still going strong. My wife's got a Fabia vRS: 130bhp TDI engine in a smallish, light car - it's an absolute laugh to drive and is bloody quick. Again, 6 year old / 90k miles and doesn't in any way feel the miles.

And one of my mates wife recently bought a brand new 5-dr Fabia in red, but had the roof done in black - really looks the part.
 
Had an Octavia vRS for the last 3 1/2 years. Did 50000 miles in it and would recommend them to anybody. Excellent build quality embarrassingly so for VW and Audi as they are supposed to be the VAG budget brand. I have a VW also and previously had an Audi

Apart from general servicing and the odd wear and tear issue nothing major. I bought it at the time a few people laughed. A Golf Gti Anniversary was nearly twice the price used and the Skoda was the same spec with a bigger boot and only £2000 depreciation in the time I had it. The thinking mans choice I believe.. :P

Go for it.
 
I too had an Octavia vRS, 53 plate. Good car, no complaints whatsoever, timing belt changes are critical on most Skoda engines. As for the badge, don't care what people think, would buy another Skoda.

Thanks - reckon I'll pay the Skoda garage a visit after xmas and see if I can squeeze a few more quid out of them for our fiesta to save the hassle of selling privately and then order a red Fabia.

I see you also have a vw campervan - we have had an old 80's type 3 ( with flower decals ) that we've had for years - great fun and doesn't depreciate!
 
Agree. I would rather have a Skoda than Ford or Vauxhall. Many of their models are basically identical to VW models, only with lower quality of interior (but not poor quality). Engineering is no different.
 
No one laughs any more
I have not heard anything bad about Skoda since VW took over not really a surprise there then
They now make fine cars and some like the Yeti and Superb very highly rated :thumbsup:

A colleague of mine had the hatchback (Fabia I think). It had 130bhp and was very quick. Very reliable too, as it shared its engine with the VW Golf TDI, and many other parts with VW Polo
 
My folks just bought in september an Octavia 1.6 on my advice ... it is a stunning well built car which has replaced their previous Mondeo - when i see someone in a skoda now a days i tend to think someone has made a considered choice .
 
Not being funny, BUT, as you are getting such low px offers, and your Fiesta is such good nick and low mlieage,why don't you keep it for a while longer.
 
I have also owned a Skoda in the past - it was the old shape Octavia VRS.Very good car and a pleasure to drive - massive boot, that would hold two mountain bikes (front wheels removed) and all our camping gear for two week trips down to the alps in the summer.Our current everyday car is a VW Scirroco 2.00 tfsi - good car but not any better in my experience.
 
I don't think you'll be disappointed frankly. I run a Passat estate (which underpins the Superb as well) and its fine. I believe the Fabia is basically a Polo underneath and the platform is also used by the Seat Ibiza, so its tried and tested.
 
No worries with Skoda here, I am running a 12 year Octavia TDI Estate which I have had for 6 years. Goes on and on with no problems at all. Really don't know what to replace it with now as skoda's aint as cheap as they used to be, especially the TDI estates.
