So, just let me get this clear....?

This mysterious water that creeps into and actually mixes with your engine oil over winter (I wasn't aware that water and oil mix), what happens to it to this particular form of water as soon as the engine temperature exceeds 100 C ?
Or, does this mysterious old water then leave some form of 'poison' that then affects the protective properties of your oil?

I'm further confused as to why then this mysterious water or its residue should be hazardous to M- Engines on a 12 monthly basis yet seemingly OK for all other BMW engines only if left for 2 years (according to their servicing schedule) regardless of mileage incurred... :?

At best this all just sounds like armchair theorising to me; more logically it just sounds like a waste of time and money for the sake of it.

I repeat, I have never experienced a problem on any BMW which can be attributed to not adhering to a prescribed element of the service schedule on a time only basis.

I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on this.

Yes we will have to do so as its purely down to personal preference . I first came across oil/water emulsifying when i ran a 911 through winter . Alarmed when routinely checking the oil to find a gunk / mayo deposit that is directly caused with short journeys in cold temps producing condensation . just one example of thousands here if you think i'm just armchair dreaming  http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=617445

Just for clarity though , i wasn't singling out M engines specifically Re the oil changes  I do yearly servicing regardless of miles whether its my diesel van or petrol performance car

Few questions
1.how is the clutch is it still the original item ?
2.how much tread on tyres and are they all matching ?
3.when were the shims last checked ?
4.Do you have a folder full of receipts especially for the 2 services close together from non specialist
5.Any faults with current suspension ?

Christ it’s like reading war and peace!
Good luck with your sale, although I suspect you’ve probably moved on to pastures new😳

Good luck with your sale.

I'm actually embarrassed to be part of this forum.

It's a for sale thread, people should keep their opinions to themselves IMHO!

Agreed - the thread is an embarrassment and should be deleted. OP, please don’t be deterred by the comments on here - good luck with your sale.

Really good looking car and a colour that suits it.
I would say though that the advert does look a bit confusing with the car being shown in two different colours.
It may be better to only have pics showing the colour it is now with the other pics available on request.
Also the pics look like they have a filter on them so it might be better with clearer pics showing the colour of the car better.
Nice to see something different.

I am seriously thankful and partially restored in my faith towards humanity by all the latest comments about how "embarassing" this thread has been.

now..

1.how is the clutch is it still the original item ?

honestly, I have no idea if it's the original one. I think none of the invoices that are in the car's folder mention a clutch replacement job, but the clutch feels absolutely fine. once you get used to this gearbox (which can be a bit grumpy in 1st and 2nd if you haven't made friends yet) changing gears is really smooth.

2.how much tread on tyres and are they all matching ?

tyres are matching and I'd say there is still 50% left. I'll check better tomorrow, also on specs of the tyre make and model.

3.when were the shims last checked ?

also have no idea unfortunately. my rationale has been "I elect the best M garage in London and will instruct them to do whatever is needed, no matter the cost" (also because I had just bought the 2 years Gold warranty from the dealership, which will expire in May 18, it covers everything mechanical and electrical) so when I first brought the car to Technosport, last summer, I told the owner to get a feel of everything in the car. They kept the car a couple of weeks (during which they repaired the power steering radiator and installed the exhaust) then told me that a wheels alignment was the only thing the car needed, which was done.

4.Do you have a folder full of receipts especially for the 2 services close together from non specialist

I have a folder full of receipts, for the services between 2011 and 2016. None of the older ones unfortunately.

5.Any faults with current suspension ?

No, it's fine. Bought the Bilsteins only because it was a good deal.

im sorry man. truely.

Thanks beedub. I appreciate the support. :)

I want to convince myself that the potential buyer I had before the whole drop of acid comments actually changed his mind because he's looking for a lower mileage one rather than because of what happened here. :headbang:

But I'm also really happy to be still holding to the M roadster wheel.. maybe it's just another sign that I should overcome difficulties without selling it, because I know that the day when I will regret it would come soon after! Your signature words made me feel this way.

I still stand my previous statement (a few pages back) that it's beautiful in the wrapped red and it certainly wouldn't put me off buying it

If you're not in a rush to sell, I think you'd get a better price and more potential buyers in the Spring/Summer, so don't be put off if it doesn't sell straight away in the winter :)

But good luck with the sale, cracking car :P

Yeah definitely not in a rush and don't really even want to sell, but it's the sensible and rational thing to do. So yeah the thread is here to catch the attention of possible buyers but I won't desperately sell for low money. And hopefully spring will be the right moment.

Should the right opportunity arrive, the plan is then to probably buy a 2.5 roadster (or maybe a cheap 3.0 coupe?) to cope with the heart breaking and fill the void in me and my parking bay :D

I'm selling my 3.0 coupe...

Oh f**k, I just saw the ad.. that makes me wish I had found a buyer already!

Tell me, please.. how big does really feel the difference between the electric and hydraulic steering? (I'm sure there must be tons of posts about it I could read but..)

If it helps at all, I'm following my own advice and waiting until Spring to try to sell it again

I've literally just had this exact discussion at work - I might be in the minority, but I honestly can't feel that much difference between the two. The ///M feels heavier for sure, but I always thought the non///Ms had great steering feel as it was.
I'm sure many others will tell you how much better the hydraulic one is, but personally I like both and probably couldn't tell the difference on a blind test

Thanks Paul, I really feel the same about it.. in "person" it really looks even more amazing than in pics. Nothing to do with the dull Imola red. I still like titanium silver though.. classic for a Bimmer.

That's what I suspected.. well, I definitely hope that a buyer comes up before Spring and your coupe is still on the market when that happens.. I had a coupe itch even before getting in the situation that makes me look to sell.

By the way, checked the tyres, they are 4 ContiSportContacts.
