Playa Del Carmen Hotels

Currently researching to book a 7 night all inclusive stay in Playa Del Carmen next year and have the following shortlist of hotels. Has anyone stayed at any of these and care to share your experience?

The Royal Playa Del Carmen (Likely to be over budget)
Secrets Capri Riveria Cancun
The Royal Haciendas
Valentin Imperial Maya
Royal Hideaway Playacar
Occidental Grand Xcaret
 
stayed at the grand excarat last october on a 5tar 10 day holiday, one of the best holidays ever. great hotel and great food, highly recommended. :D

Grand Xcaret seems to be great value, however I have heard that the beach is not that great as it is man-made, what did you think? Adults only places are preferable, did you notice many families staying there when you were there? Also looks like you have to book dinner reservations, unlike some of the other hotels, was this hassle at all?
 
I stayed at Real Resorts, The Royal Cancun a couple years back and it was awesome, paid about £3800 for 2 weeks but was well worth it, by far the best holiday I've been on especially if you like food and drink.

Beach at Royal Cancun is man made also but its very clean and you have roped of areas for privacy and flag service for drinks. There were 2 restaurant you had to pre book but there was never any problem getting space, one was a French restaurant and the other was the teppanyaki grill.

Iberostar Tucan,

Riu Palace Mexico,

Ocean Maya Royale, which we are going back to this year for the third year running.

Read each hotel on Triadvisor before you make your mind up.
Admitted, each hotel has good and bad but take note what each person is praising or moaning about.

Forgot to say, we couldn't fault any of them.

Good praise of the area to make that many visits. I am the sort of person to do quite a bit of research so spending most evenings on TA. Thing is, they all seem great and bad reviews are few and far between, which is good but makes it harder to choose. Ideally, we would like adults only (will be part of honeymoon) and I like the thought of having quite a few restaurants to choose from and don't want to have to queue to make reservations every day.

The Ocean Maya Royale is adults only.
It has the main buffet restaurant and Mexican, Italian, Japanese and a new one for this year (I don't know what food it serves yet).
The Americans tend to do the most complaining, e.g. having to climb a flight of steps to their room on the first floor because there isn't an elevator :headbang:
 
Stayed at Secrets Capri last year fantastic food/drink/service ,smaller hotel than most there but we prefer that and no kids.$20 taxi to Playa del Carmen worth a night out. If you stay in Playacar you can walk to PDC.
 
If going to Lanzarote why would you choose PDC over Playa Blanca ? :?
Also have you visited Puerto Calero on the island ? Not great from a beach point of view but well worth a trip out for something to eat on the marina :thumbsup:

Think you're getting your Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Del Carmen confused. :D

That would explain a lot :P PDC one visit would be enough :D
