Play music from iPhone5?

Just bought a new 35is and playing with all the new toys and plugged my i phone 5c into the USB port and summond up the external device (previous car showed it as auxilliary device) and it recognised all my play lists straight away. I think itr depends on what multi media system you have rather than the phone and or cable. I used the cable from my charger.

PS I recall the manual saying something along the lines of it may not work if the phone is also paired via bluetooth at the same time so may be worth trying to un pair it.

I put my iPhone 5 on airplane mode and the cable from my charger, trying connecting it and the message came up 'the cable you are using is not currently supported.' Does this mean I need a Y cable and then a lightening adaptor cable? My car is a July 2012 built model with Enhanced Bluetooth telephone functionality & USB interface. I have read I can play music through Bluetooth but can't quite work it out.

The way I have done it is connecting usingthe USB port and the cable is from the phone charger which has a USB at one end and the otherconnects with the i phone. Make sure the bluetooth is off and if it doesn't recognise the music try to leave connected but switch the phone off and re start it. It worked with mine.
