I have sprayed my front grills with Plastidip and before fitting I placed on the steering wheel spokes to see how it compares.

With a bit of luck I will start on the spokes tomorrow once I've confirmed how the MFSW button can be removed as I want to spray these also just masking up the actual buttons.

Any ideas what to use for fine surface filler, don't really want to rub the spokes down to much to get rid of the existing marks.

yep thats it you can also get it in spray form, i would test the putty and you plastidip to ensure that the paints are compatible

Right spoke are off, I have separated the MFSW buttons from the housing as best as possible (one button left in housing but no electronics)

Have hopefully found an easy way to prep the spokes and remove the marks before painting.

Finally have given one spoke a coat, will do another coat later and post up some pics tonight. Hopefully have it all painted up and back in the car tomorrow.

I want to do my roll hoops!

People say its easy to remove... Do you think my roof rubbing against the roll hoops would pull this stuff off?

Also i take it you cant flatten it with w&d? But can you lacquer on top of it?

More pics for you

After removing from the car I first cleaned with neat IPA and this did what I thought it might. With vigorus rubbing the rubber coating was removed so removing the marks and feathering out the remaining covering. You could remove it all but it would take hours.

Bit concerned here as looked like I had put to much on. Moving it round to get to all four side did this, but it wasn't a problem in the end.

Prepared MFSW control pod IPA'd and masked.

End Results, other parts are making there way through the pant process now. :D

Only question now is durability, and with that only time will tell.

I don't think the roof rubbing will hurt it, but you can't flatten it as it's like rubber (sort of)

If that's the finish you want your better off spraying with paint I would say.

Looking very nice - how many coats did you give it ? And is it smooth to the touch ?

Any chance of a guide to removing the buttons? I started a thread on wanting to do this a while back but I was a bit scared!

Wow great job! Looks good as new
