Plastic welding repairs

I am no expert but thought I would share my experience. I managed to repair my headlight as the bracket that locks the rear cover in place had snapped off due to my carelessness. I also repaired the side mounting bracket as this was broken before I took ownership.

As I have already fitted the lights I took photos of this repair for my lower outer under tray. My number now securely attaches as they are approximately £130 each.

It is rechargeable and is good for about 30-40 mins work. Comes with a good selection of plastic rods as its important to match or it will not bond.

I started by stitching the cracks together with the hot staples. Then ground a grove so I could get plenty of new plastic into the repair. Then applied the plastic weld.

I could have sanded/filed it for a smooth repair but it is all hidden inside the bumper so no need. The result is solid

That's an impressive repair.

I wish I had bought one of those when I got the front bumper of my 3 Series caught over a kerbstone.

Great repair, considering those parts are about £80 each that is a really good approach to the plastics that always end up cracking.

Very good job.
I used my wifes hot glue gun to a similar effect although I used a bit of stainless steel lock wire to stitch the sides in place and cut support patches from a thick plastic Costco Pate container, needs must!

Cheers guys Some one else told me later you can also use a soldering iron and a plastic tie wrap. But the hot staple does give a very solid stitch to work on. Saves loads of hassle trying to hold it all together with eight hands
