Plasti dip on bumpers

Hi guys,
After spending a few hours with Greg, we decided, even though the weather was pants, to plasti dip his bumpers after seeing the results on mine, below are the before & after photos

As you can see by the photos the weather was pants, but, IMHO I think the results are great, interested in peeps opinions though, bearing in mind the cost to do both cars was only 1can of plasti dip black, some masking tape & a few hours time from a pair of blokes that didn't know what they were doing.....

Honest opinion Dave

The front of the facelift looks good. The rear facelift just about OK, but was better before and the prefacelift roadster looks cr*p, having ruined its lines.

Of course just an opinion and the beauty of plastidip is you can just peel it off.
 
Not a fan of the preface version like that. I tried mine like that but then decided to change it slightly.
Mines done with some cheap satin vinyl

I think cr*p is a bit strong. :?

Dave's roadster looks awesome in the flesh and that's why we had a go at mine. It's not ruined the lines at all, in fact Dave hasn't done his rear bumper for that very reason.
You have to remember that it was p**sing down and we were working under a garage door which is why the photos don't do it justice as Dave took them on his iphone and the light was terrible!

Mine looks lower and wider with the "stare" taken off it and the quad conversion now looks better too.

The plasti dip also gives some texture which looks great on both cars. :thumbsup:

Sorry if my comment seemed strong. Just saying it how I see it.

Although a low light photo as you say it appears you've simply taken a diagonal from the corner of the grille to some point on the side of the bumper cover following the crease. It doesn't follow either of the 2 natural lines of the front end of the car and jars visually. The line beetgav's taken looks so much better.

In terms of the texture and colour - yes it's great. In fact I just fitted an ///M bumper on mine today and am wrestling with keeping the lower section painted or a satin finish. Since I've just sprayed it and worked it to a gloss with the Porter Cable I'm loathed to conceal it so soon...

Love Plastidip, use the Frost's version of it for my wing mirrors. Love the back end you've done, not convinced on the front. I am interested how you got such a clean line though?

Easy. Just masked up the natural crease on the bumper with masking tape and sprayed. Same on the fronts but the bad light and rain has hidden the effect.

When it stops raining I'll get some clearer shots with my camera......

I'm pretty chuffed as it's my first go, if it's not quite right the advantage is I can peel and have another go :thumbsup:
 
I'm tempted to do my rear bumper (facelift). Made a thread with some mock-ups: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57524

It looks quite cool in photos, I'm just not sure it'll stand up to a proper eyeballing. Smart move using Plasti Dip, I reckon.

It was your mock ups that got us talking and Dave had done his which looked so good in the flesh that we did mine.

It's still raining :( but when it stops I'm going to clean the wee beastie and take some better shots to post. :D

TBH it was my first go but we can peel it and do it again any time we want :thumbsup:

The beauty is we can peel and start again.

I thought it might actually protect the bottom lip a little, if it does I might do the whole car :rofl:
 
Hahahaha I did the same on my front last weekend.

But gonna do it again and gloss it.

I also have some clear plasti dip which I'm gonna test to see finish.

IMHO it looks great and makes the front pretty mean.
I would go down m bumper route but too costly and not as nice looking with the flow of the car.

Yeah I see what you mean. Different beast and black on black is a bit like denim on denim - Never Good :thumbsdown:

It's the contrast that gives the effect. :thumbsup:
