PistonHeads Z4M Coupe Review

it's a fair article and remember, opinions are like ar$eholes - they always stink and everyone has got one :poke:

Also Chris Harris is a well known Porsche fan so as I was reading I knew a reference to a porker would appear :D

Probably would have been completely different review had he driven a Z4MR :fuelfire:

I think it's a tad of an unfair write up in all honesty but each to their own. Like the reference to TVR though :D

Thinking about this more, does it really matter if a car journalist think A or B model isn't to their liking? I mean they're in a profession that get to drive a huge array of machines, some OK, some good and some amazing. Thus you might say that their standards are much higher that a layman's.

For example the brand new 991 Porsche 911. It now has an electric steering system than a hydraulic that the previous ones had. The journos say "Noooo that's ruined it etc etc etc". Would a "normal" person even tell a difference?

My Z4M is my first and so far only quick car. My previous cars were all 15+ year old sheds. The Z4 could have a steering column made out of cheese and i'd still think it was brilliant... You see my point? Sure if you own a s**t load of cars, or collect them or change them every 1-2 years then MAYBE what the journos write or say matters, but for most people... Well it gives them something to argue about down the pub.

ga41, agree.

Personally I think (from what I have read on here from you guys) he's talking a lot of Porker stained sh1te.

His taste is questionable anyway - whilst the Z3M coupe is a classic now, and we have learnt to love it's ugliness, it is still feckin' ugly to the unsympathetic eye. And from what I have read it is very eager to kill you if you even look at it wrongly.

The Z4M coupe looks way better than the Z3M coupe, and comparing it to the M3 that the S54 is derived from is simply idiotic... And his comments on the feel of teh M3 vs Z4M make no sense to me, not because I have driven one but because many on here have and would appear to disagree.

So, sh1te. From an Arse. QED.

I agree with some of that article but not all of it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think both the Z3M coupe and the Z4M coupe are fantastic looking designs. Neither have dated anywhere near as much as other BMWs from those generations.

The bit I agree with is why buy one over an e46 M3. The argument for the Z4M coupe over the E46 M3 coupe can surely only be that it's rarer and it looks better, but as i say that is a matter of opinion. Soft tops on the other hand, the Z4M roadster is much better than the E46 M3 cabriolet in every department apart from rear seating capacity.

I suppose the other problem could be that Harris is so used to driving Porsches that he was driving the M too softly.

the comment about the battery in the boot is fair. It would completely do my head in having an asymmetric load space.

I love mine. 'nuff said :D.

I'm pretty sure a if you drove a cayman and a Z4MC in the wet, on a bend and gave it a boot full, it makes no difference which chassis you are in, both will go sideways, then backwards, then hit a tree!
It just comes down to which one will go first and how. Unless your eyes are on stalks a good percentage of joe public wouldn't catch a slide in either and the end result is still the same.

Did I mention I love mine :D

He ain't got a clue, or just written to :poke: us.
Hope he's enjoying his Toyota :D

Ok... He redeemed himself a little at the end.

You guys seen this.

Comes across quite negative on the first take, but a couple of reads and some of his points are fair against the standard car.

I've just read through all the comments, and to be fair he responded well to the most coherent response... Though I liked sixspeed's too. He even conceded the poster's points, so I have dialled him down from w@nker to provocateur in my head :D

Really? :tumbleweed:

How about I love a sleek sexy 2-seater sports car more than I would a tarted up rep-mobile? Okay I'm being harsh on the E46 M3 (I love 'em) but I don't want a 4-seater thanks very much and I've had the Roadster, been there and done that!

Hoping that was mine you were referring too.

I think his points are fair... the Z4M is flawed in many ways which we have all come to love... and the fact everyone who knows about it is 50-50 on whether they like it.. putting them in it and making them hold on for dear life with a huge grin on their face is part of the fun.

We are all pretty emotionally attached to our cars, and compared to other newer cars it could seem that way. But I love it all the same.
