Pistonheads review of Z4

I have just been reading a review of the Z4 on PH. Its states the following "The power top is simple and fast. To operate it you have to put the car in neutral and pull the parking brake up before it will play ball. Then you just touch the button and the top goes down. You don't have to hold the button down until it fully folds down, it's a one-touch operation." The one I have and the ones I have tested, you have to hold down the button untill the roof is down. Is that a miss print?

Thanks

Ive not tried it yet, but i believe the roof can be brought back up whilst moving at a slow speed, up to 30mph is it?

Z4 from factory only option is to stop for up and down and hold button for both until it's fully opened or closed.

Reinhold one touch requires you to stop and press button for a seond or so, but then you can let go.

Remote roof press unlock or lock three times on your key and the roof will open or close on its own.

There is also a module available from somewhere that will enable you to slow down but not stop.

Sounds wrong on all counts to me. Not only will mine operate in-gear and handbrake off, it'll do it whilst crawling. IIRC it'll start the movement upto 3mph, and continue upto 5mph, opening or closing the roof.

Oh, and it's not one-touch either. Given they don't give you one-touch-up on the passenger window for safety reasons, I doubt they'd authorise a one-touch roof closing mechanism (or finger guillotine, as I call it).

That is the same procedure to work the first gen Porsche Boxster (up to 2004 I think)... maybe they were confused.

The Z doesn't require the handbrake, neutral, or the car to be completely stopped. I wish it were one-touch too. :driving:

Spot on srhutch. The only additions I would make are that you don't have to be in neutral, handbrake on or anything like that and once the process has started you can drive off while it completes, so long as you continue to hold the button.

Any variation will be due to an aftermarket module or Indy programming, or market specific variation

Pistonheads is just about perfectly wrong

you have to stop to start putting the roof up or down, the handbrake and neutral may be for autos but this is not true of manual, once the roof has started moving you can pull away but you must keep hold of the button

rob - that's what srhutch and myself said between, his first post I quoted and my extra comments. Auto/manual makes no difference

Is the remote roof (three presses to unlock/drop roof) an optoin or addition or should it be standard?

standard is hold down unlock for about 5 seconds then it starts and you keep hold of unlock until the roof's finished doing its thing

the three press i think is an after market module you can get
