Look into the Alpine ezi-dab, you'll get the benefit of DAB etc whilst still retaining your factory steering wheel controls and such.

Ive been considering this straight after ive done my sub upgrade. I didn’t want to change the stock stereo as it fits in with the dash so well and anything else aftermarket wise just sticks out.

I do however really feel that the stock head unit is really holding everything back. Ive got a BMW ipod (the old connection) unit in the glove box and its pretty useless. It doesn’t charge, I cant skip albums, I keep forgetting ive got my ipod (which I had to buy specifically for the car) plug in and leave it in the car playing so its flat by the time I come to use it again.

My old aftermarket Kenwood in my old car I could charge my iphone 5, it would be able to see all the albums and read all the contacts in my phone. I also feel that a better head unit would also benefit the speakers the car already has giving you far more control over the levels.

I don’t think ive ever found it so difficult to just rip a stock stereo out

Personally I'd stick with the original unit.......I just don't think the Zed or most modern cars would benefit aesthetically from aftermarket units.
Saying that though I love my music and am more than happy with my Carver/Intravee. If I wasn't then just maybe I'd look at alternatives.
So can understand where yourself and Taz are coming from.

for me its a visual thing, my ear is not brilliant and the BMW radio is sufficient, I just find the interior crap, I can also see the argument against after market units too :?
