pinking

car went into dealers a week ago to have pinking investigated, came back dealer said he had reporgrammed it and it was fine. on the way home up the hill and away it went as bad as ever, told dealer he said he would email bmw again. its so frustrating can hear it occasionaly when changing gear but mainly going slowly uphill, anyway its not right and will eventually damage the engine (perhaps that might be better and then they can replace the lot!) anyway another lesson learned, when the car goes into the dealer i usually ask them NOT to wash it, this time i forgot, it came back nice and clean but bloody hell when i got it in the garage and under the fluorecent light it looked like they had chamoied it with a brillo pad! so spent today buffing it and 2 coats of wax, looks cracking again.

Are you running on 98 octane? My previous Z was pinking under load, but during the petrol strike I had to put 95 in it once, and then it was terrible.

During normal running no problem though.

with 95, and bearing in mind it should run on that, it is diabolical, i always run on v power but its still doing it although not as bad and it seems slightly worse when in sport mode.

finally got the car back and have tried it only once so far and no pinking YET. car was at dealers for over 4 weeks in total, first came back with a ding in the door which no arguement was fixed by the dealer and it looked like somone had chamoid it with a brillo pad, took me all day to buff and repolish, cleaned the car today having not used it and i see one of the brand new wheels has a kerb scrape on it not terrible but bloody annoying. bearing in mind i looked high and low when i bought this car for one that was mint, moral is dont take it to a dealer unless you absolutely must!

Mine pinked.... and then I replaced my DISA and I haven't heard it since (touch wood!).
