Pin 12 trick

Hi all,
Does anyone know if there's a video of the pin 12 trick to open boot. I'm about to have a go and i don't want to blow the car up. I have a booster pack a wire with a test pin and a 7.5 amp fuse in line .

Excellent info, maybe worth considering, just in case. My car is in for a rear wing dent repair and I had to show the guy how the roof and boot opening worked. After seeing quite a few threads similar to this, I've been waiting for a call about disconnecting the battery and accidentally shutting the lid. But no one can be that silly right?
Also I forgot to disconnect the Smarttop, so it's all or nothing......
Wasn't big damage so I think they can manage

However, if you have an android phone or tablet, you can buy Binnergeek ProTool. With a single click you can open the boot. Plus you have a BMW specific Diagnostic tool to determine why the boot is not opening.

pretty hard to blow the car up, you just “touch”or wipe pin 12 to the fuse.(the big blue one) doesn’t matter which side.



Cheers.. I hooked up a button to it for while working on the roof.. glad I did, I must have pressed that thing over 100 times..

I was having troble getting the connector out. I didn't want to break anything,, so, I found the light grey/green wire, shaved a bit of the cover off and jabbed a test pin into it. I then heard the sweet sound of the boot unlocking and did a little dance.
I just have to fix the roof pump motor now.
Thank you to all who helped.

Yes i wired that grey/green to a switch in the blank boot release switch position on my car.
Used many times working on the roof and as a boot release from inside the car.

afirm Sir.. I did rather think also prob need a mech release as if the boot lock motor switch has a malfunction, you will be REALLY up the creek without a paddle...

What makes you think the pump motor is the problem?

The roof pump motor is what I was originally trying to fix. The boot was full of water and corroded the motor and distribution board. I disconnected everything, and like a pillock, I shut the boot.
