Picture of Z4 "chassis" structure

Somewhere I have seen a picture of the Z4's basic structure with all the outer panels absent. I think that it was in response, probably in these fora, to someone asking whether the roll hoops behind the seats were functional or ornamental (and the photograph showed them to be something like bent scaffold poles, and very much functional). The really interesting thing about the photograph was that it showed the Z4 to have a structure that seemed to make the visible panels unstressed and simply bolted onto the structural basis beneath. The nearest equivalent I can recall is the Rover P6, but there are also some similarities to the Austin Healy Sprite.

Anyway, I have searched long and hard to try to find that picture, and failed. I would be really grateful if someone could post a link to it, or somehow get a copy of it to me. I need to show someone what the Z4 looks like underneath (because he is a sceptic, and he is right that it does not look all that strong from the outside). If he can be convinced it is a strong car, we may take it over the Stelvio a few times as a charity fundraising stunt.

:?

Okay. Surely the Euro NCAP data and findings would be more relevant?

Looks can be deceptive. It's a very strong car with fantastic passive safety too!

I'd rather be in mine, all said and done, than most other cars! Good combo of active/passive. Only real downside is low seating giving relatively poor visibility over more hilly sections of road.

One of the most dangerous accidents is a roll over and in the http://www.nhtsa.gov test the Z4 gets a 5 start rating for keeping the shiny side up. Very few cars get a 5 star rating for resisting roll over....

Got a picture like that for us tin-top owners?
Was quite good watching the BMW megafactories and seeing the car being built up.

I thought all modern cars were constructed that way. What modern car has a "visible panel" that is structural (except for the roof)?

Sounds like a fun chap to be with. Take a Sherman tank - far safer and won't go dangerously fast. :poke:
