Pics of top drain holes????

Yes and we must remember it was a smart ass technician designed this 8mm drain and put an electric motor in the way , so why would he or she design such a smart bung. :!:

well said, if they worked you wouldn't get crap stuck in them so easy.
mine were not that blocked when i went to look at them but there was certainly a good deal of debris in them. little stones, mud, bits of leaf etc. i have no doubt that they wound not be able to hold a column of water when clear, water will leack out through any hole that is there. the argument is they collect debris and then block not they wont let water out.

why is the hole more likely to become blocked without the bung and how do you know that is why it is there in the first place?

Aren't there two different issues here? Top drain holes being blocked might lead to water running back in to the in the boot? Possible, but I can't imagine the large roof motor space completely filling then backing up out of that top drain, that would be a huge quantity of water sloshing around and is unlikely to be held by a bottom plug or bottom drain hole being clogged.

Not my car which wasn't blocked fortunately! you can see the tide mark is just off the bottom but sufficient to wet the motor housing.

Question for engineers: If the rubber bung was removed couldn't the venturi effect of air passing over the lower drain draw water and crud OUT, or will air from the rotating wheel create turbulence and positive pressure and force muck IN ? :poke:
