This is the marketing junk, not the reality of the situation. BMW trying to sell an SLK competitor but not lose the 'sporty' car market to the Boxster.
Well said!

The new Z4 is definately aimed at a different audience than the current model. Truth be told, BMW may have more success with this version than with the current version, BUT that does not necisarily mean that it will be a 'better' (whatever that means) car.

How can a car with a higher CofG
Are you sure? Because the roof and all mechanics weights 30Kg extra (statement of BMW). So I guess the only roof weights around 15kg (~1%) of the 100Kg weight gain (E85-3.0/E89-sDrive30).

Marketing junk or not. If the German E85 owner who drove the sDrive35 last week in Spain speaks the truth, then the marketing stuff is correct.

I guess you all have read the linked post? http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9876

I think that it will be a very different drive, more cruiser, and I would rather have a 35i with DCT and the twin turbo thrust than a E85 ///M, but just my opinion.

One of the things that really attracted me to the current Z4, was the fact that it was a bit 'rough around the edges'. It gives the car character.

There was a thread on the old Z4UM site that talked about 'Atari Cars' vs. 'Drivers Cars'. Atari Cars are effortless and perfect, just like playing a video game. The Z4 was considered to be a Drivers Car - a car you had to pay attention to, but one that would reward you with big grins. The new Z4 seems to be moving into the Atari Car territory. Maybe by the time I am ready to make a switch that will appeal to me, but for right now, I am sticking with my Drivers Car :driving:

I totally agree.

I hope to test drive one in the 2nd week of may. Let's see how this significant change E85/E89 works out in real life.

I imagine the E89 will be very much like my SLK - effortless to drive with a hugely grunty engine and fabulous auto box, comfortable ride, and very refined with the hard top...

...but ultimately lacking soul, which I can forgive as it suits me, but others looking for a drivers car would be, in my opinion, better off looking at a standard Boxster or a 370Z. Or a last of the line Z4M.

:)

We all knew that you went soft when you ditched your Z4 for the SLK :poke: :fuelfire:
