Rick Hunter, it's definitely growing on me, the side profile with the roof up looks great, and those 19" wheels make a big difference to the overall look.

I can't wait to see white and titanium silver.

:sweetheart:

As much negativity as I promote about this new iteration, I DO agree that it's a good looking car. The engineers have done a good job evolving the design. Interior updates, of course, more revolutionary.

If you are thinking about moving back to a Z4 though, I'd wait for another year so that you can compare it to the next gen SLK. It'll be interesting to see how the rivalry will progress.

___end threadjack.

No I won't be doing anything for another year or so, I want to see how BMW position the car in the UK before I take the plunge, already 10% discount is available so I want to see how the used car market goes.

Well... their current position is a little weaksauce, if they're already discounting the car before it's release.

Sun Reflective Technology. But I like the feel of warm leather on my skin.

I personally think the new Z4 will flop in this economy. The more I see it the more I want a 6 Series.

Wow!!! With the roof down, I can still fit my reflective vest in the center console!

BTW, what is up with that tiny speaker system in the middle??? Is the the Hi-Fi DSP version, or a 90's attempt at center staging of music?

Bit worrying the way they are taking he z away from sportiness!

Not the case. See the First Drive thread, E85/E89 comparison:

Now the part surprising for me. The new Z4’s suspension has become clearly more comfortable and targets a different kind of driver. But the sportiness did not suffer from it. The corning speed is very high. The Z4 remains always neutral, no under-steers at all. Even the moment I entered a U turn a little too fast, the car never pushed the front axle in under steer. The steering element fits: Precise, beautiful feedback - in addition, less difficult to operate than the old one.

Hmmm, lots of mention about extra things that don't actually make it a better sports car on bit, but plenty of things that will compromise that.

The Z4 right now is boderline luxury car imho, so going further down that route will make it not the kinda car I'll be buying in 5 years time ;)

Lets hope the Z2 is the new fun, small, light(ish) sports roadster, with a rag top :D

Don't focus on the bullet on the triangles.

You have to look at the blue line, that shows the 'profile' of the car within 3 areas.

According the graphic, the sporty level of the E85 equals the E89 level. Likewise for the 'youthfulness', a more questionable issue because the car looks more 'grown up'. The comfort of the E85 is lower on the axis then the E89.

That is just a bullshit triangle by all accounts.

Nowhere is sporty, young or comfort defined.

How can a car with a higher CofG, more weight beyond the extents of it's wheels, so larger polar moment of inertia, and more weight generally by a fair margin, be compensated in the 'sporty' definition here?

My assumption is that 'sporty' is a perceptional value here. A Boxster is sporty, an M3 CSL is sporty, by that diagram, a 3.0Si is sporty, so I wonder how this new car can be as sporty as the old one.
The logic suggests the CSL didn't need to be lighter, with a lower CofG, stiffer ride, etc, to be sporty. Silly BMW :P

This is the marketing junk, not the reality of the situation. BMW trying to sell an SLK competitor but not lose the 'sporty' car market to the Boxster.
