thought I'd clean the Z today, what did I find whilst doing so? a bloody crack in the windscreen about 6" long right under the wiper so I didn't notice it while driving. I had something hit the screen the other day but couldn't see where, I know now, there's a small chip right at the base of the screen by the scuttle panel and the crack is coming off this. I have insurance but I'm more concerned about the poor quality work carried out by some windscreen fitters I've read about on here. :headbang:

Just had mine fitted by Autoglass, tinted in blue & new rain sensor.

Took 3 hours but for once am very pleased with the result - no mess & spmehow even my Z4 forum sticker was put back on

Spend a bit of time with the guy when arriving at the depot, politely emphasising your concerns & what they can do to make sure everything goes without a hitch.

Least if you say something before, they know u will be on their tail if they screw up

I'm quite happy with mine from National Windscreens (through Admiral). But I did notice a chip & tiny scratch on the windscreen when we inspected it before fitting.

I still accepted it though as I needed it, and it had about 9,999 chips less than the one it was replacing.

dont go to hampshire window screens they took my 7 series to there depot because it was raining and had no cover, when the car was returned there was shattered glass all over the carpet muddy foot prints all over the carpet.and to make it worse they ordered the wrong window screen but instead of ordering the right one they cut the plastic surround that goes around the rain sensor so it would fit but you then could see all the wiring for it and it stuck out like a sore thumb. all got sorted in the end.
but dont worry it will be fine :) auto glass did a good job when used

Must be that time of year, just had mine replaced by Autoglass (on bank holiday Monday too) through Privilege, no complaints all seems well.

I had a similar event, heard a stone hit the windscreen but didn't see a chip - it was actually behind the rear view mirror, a couple of days later, after some cold nights and hot days (plus some pot holes I suspect) a huge crack appeared.

Andi.

Does using insurance to replace thse have any impact on premium prices/renewals?

Pretty sure they say it doesnt, but i duno what the truth is..?

Way back when, Probably about 2006 or 2007, I needed mine replaced. Turned it into insurance cause it was over my deductible, $500. Funny, but when all was said and done, it was under $500 total price, so IMHO, I think forgo the insurance if you have a large deductible.
