Phone Scammers

I had a scam email from EDF earlier saying they need to increase my energy DD to £10k a month.

I checked and it wasn't a scam! :o

Yes we had the Amazon one today, local code. Unusually large amount £1,000.00 something on our card. Mechanical voice, obvious really. And keep getting McAfee virus emails saying it’s running out and need to pay, now I have umpteen viruses. Odd we don’t have McAfee.

I’ve just had a call asking to speak to me . I told her to wait while I go and get him, he is currently on the roof at the moment i said.

She hung up !

On credit cards, Lynn lost the additional card she has for my Amex a few weeks ago. She thinks I've reported it and keeps asking if a new one has arrived. I'm trying to get a few more weeks out of it as the person currently using it fraudulently is spending a lot less on it than she did.

A friend sent me this:-

I had a phone conversation today with a very nice young chap from Pakistan. This is how it went:

"Hello sir, how are you today?"

"I'm very well, thank you for asking. And how are you? And, more to the point, WHO are you?"

"Sir, my name is Sanjit, and I'm calling you from Microsoft".

"Microsoft, eh? Is that a city in Pakistan? How's the weather there today?"

" No, sir - MICROSOFT, the computer company. I'm calling to tell you that we have found a problem with your computer and -"

"REALLY?? Well, that's quite concerning......"

"Yes sir, it can become very serious indeed, but thankfully I will be able to fix it for you. Now, if you -"

"No, I meant it's very concerning because you see I don't HAVE a computer".

"You don't?"

"I don't".

"Ahh, it must be a problem on your laptop sir -"

"Don't have one".

"Ipad?"

"Nope".

"Tablet?"

"Nope, I have none of those things. As a matter of fact, I don't even have a telephone".

After a few seconds of silence he said "Ah, sir, you are lying to me now!"

I said "Well, you started it!!" and put the phone down.

If you hear a bleep when you answer the phone, put it down as it will be spam.

Don't think I've ever had cold callers on the mobile, still have a home landline but not used it for years, if it ever rings its left to ring :)

Tim.

I go thro periods of being called by a bunch called Beneficial
Same clap trap every time.

Phone placed next to the radio works ok!

Does anyone know of a decent app to kill these calls? I found Hiya but I didnt really fancy paying to stop spam calls unless we can have fun with them.

I have also found Robokiller but that only seems to be available in US, Canada, India and China this one seems to be the most fun as when you reject a call as spam they get directed to a fake person/ai spam trap but we cant get it here in the UK :(

Man I wish I still had access to telco equipment I would love to setup a rickroll line just to transfer all of the spam calls to.

I always say i'm not the person they want but I'll just go and get him. I also warn them that they suffers from Tourettes but they'll be on the line a few seconds.

Then the fun starts............

We have an answer machine with the number read out as it calls, anything with number starting 00 is usually spam and if they don't leave a message its pretty obvious. So it gets ignored. And my phone has a call block.

If the caller is not on my contact list, my phone rings once the tells me its from an unknown caller so it doesn't get answered.

If it's important, they will leave a message, no message assume it's spam and it don't get answered.

The downside of that is, several years ago a company traced me to inform me of a small pension that had been dormant. Not huge but worth having!
Just glad i was polite

Ive Just had a scam “ Call” from 02 offering the world plus loads of discounts - she asked me to confirm I was the account holder- I said yes and told her she was a filthy scammer as (I’ve never had a 02 account!)

I’ve read that this scam supplies the victim with one time pass code which they ask you to read out to them - this is applied and they get a new phone!

I've been getting 2-4 spam calls a day on my mobile for a year or more now - vast majority are in Chinese (I think it's the embassy we are deporting you scam)
I've blocked the numbers and deleted them but they still keep coming
It's doing my head in.
Tried the free version of Hiya without success, so have just resorted to silencing unknown calls and sending them straight to voicemail.
It still means I have to check/delete them but at least I'm not disturbed

I had a scam call from someone the other day informing me that they were aware I had a car accident and offering help.

Having just sat down with a cup of coffee, I asked them how they could help and made up a load of nonsense to the questions for about 5 mins. All was going well until he asked the extent of my injuries. When I told him I had died as a result so would expect a high level of compensation, he hung up. :)

Calls can be annoying but they can be fun at the right time.
