Phone disconnecting when answering

Hi, I have an issue with my phone connection, what happens is my phone always pairs when I’m in my zed every time, but as soon as someone rings me and I answer through the steering wheel button, the call diverts Straight to the phone, so it’s pretty useless really. Any ideas?

The phone is a google pixel 4, any advice would be much appreciated.
 
I'd guess it's because your're trying to pair your modern phone to a car that's 15 years old and using previous generation bluetooth protocols.
My son's Blackberry worked perfectly in his zed then he upgraded his phone and that was the end of that happy relationship ,so he changed the headunit for an aftermarket item and uses that bluetooth.
 
Quick question on this - has anyone tried substituting the Bluetooth "box" for one from a later more modern BMW ? My iPhone 8 worked after a fashion, but I'm not hopeful about my new Samsung S10.....
