Phone Dilemma...

I hated Apple and avoided them for years.

Swapped B'berry for iPhone4 and it's in a different league. Love the apps that I'm relaint on and now matched it with iPad.

... and whatever people say, I would not pin your hopes on the iPhone not breaking if you dropped it (especially if you dropped it in the toilet!!)

Mine worked almost perfectly after gone for a swim in the toilet.

Moved from HTC/Android to iPhone 4S and will NEVER go back, superb screen/build quality etc and yes Siri is a bit of a gimmic but being able to nistruct phone to create an appointment/reminder/send text/make phone call hands free is a huge boon

Def the iPhone
They are great at everything apart from looking at flash sites... but thats another discussion for another thread ;)

Slowly coming round to the fact that it will be iPhone next for me especially after the huge disappointment my current Nokia N8 has been, I like the toys on it but when I get back to the UK it will be going back to Nokia to replace for the 3rd time with exactly the same fault.

ive done most of the os's now, had the 1st iphone and then a 3g, moved onto an htc desire and currently have a blackberry 9700. i think ill be going for the nokia lumia 800 shortly, i dont make many calls and only really text the girlfriend, plus i have an original ipad for the apple stuff im very happy with, i really dont give a monkeys about apps these days. want to give windows phone os a try.

iphone contracts are just too expensive for what you get, or the payg option is just as pricey, and the phone a bit too delicate for my liking, so i think ill stick to the ipad for my apple fix and have cheaper phones.

as a former gadget nut i cant believe im saying this, but these days my money goes into running cars rather than fancy gadgets, well thats a slight lie as the money i would have spent on an iphone went on a samsung plasma telly, but then thats used a hell of a lot! still have a 5 year old macbook pro doing a good job and my original ipad, so a 3rd apple product is a bit overkill lol.

iPhone, you have to look at all the accessories, docking stations, hifi, car head units etc etc, that are set up for the iPhone/iPod platform to realise how many Companies invest in the iphone as the way forward.

Apple stuff does look pretty & feels solid but it treats the user like a spoon.

I can watch BBC Sport Formula 1 full screen wherever I have 3g using built in flashplayer.. I have 3 batteries so if I travel I don't have to worry about charging. Maybe the iphone 5 will have these 'features'.

I love mine, & haven't seen anyone else with one yet.

So yep, buy an iphone 8)

iPhone, no contest. Although I am probably slightly skewed by the fact it is part of an anaesthetists essential uniform!

iPhones are for sheep. Apple have taken their eye off the ball and have been overtaken by an ever improving Android OS and far superior handsets (Galaxy S2 is an awesome bit of kit)

I use iPhone. I will not change. 't'was the original smart phone IMO and still the best. 4S, whilst not looking different from the 4 is quite a bit better.

I doubt 4S would break if dropped. I'd for the Apple if I were you.

Others will have different opinions of course, but this is my tuppence worth

My brother-in-law (also an anaesthetist) recently bought an Android :)

Out of interest though there's a couple of mentions of Flash - seriously do Apple devices not support this yet?

Love my HTC desire. Can't imagine ever been able to justify the cost of an iPhone. More likely to buy a third Z4 ;-)

Iphones are great at what they do....look pretty, have nice apps for chosing dog names and identifying plants etc if that's what you want....the problem for me personally is that they don't do what I want (or anywhere near as much as a top-end Android).

Sharing files....downloading files from websites....true multi-tasking....running full bittorrent client on the phone....using the phone as mass storage (what you mean the iphone really can't do that???!!)....using my phone as a wifi hotspot for my laptop.....changing the battery.....increasing the memory.....putting the memory card from my camera straight in the phone to upload photos on the move.....watching movies without needing to re-code.....not having to be tied to itunes....streaming music from a wifi DLNA server wirelessly via bluetooth simultaniously to wireless speakers.....making direct VOIP calls on any SIP account without any apps (free international calls and texts)....using the phone to share (split) a 'single connection per room' hotel wifi signal.....

The list goes on and on as to what you can't do with an iphone.

I'm sure I'll ghet shot down in flames by all the Apple sheep because if there's one thing I've noticed it's how violently defensive Iphone users are when you point out a few shortcomings! :D

They do look nice though

Okey, i have to take part in this conversation also.. :)

The phones what i'm using is atm Nokia N9 and Nokia N8.. Well, The nokia N9 is perfect as an phone, i got no negative saying about that phone. the ui is simple awsome :)

And the my faitfull N8 did left just sitting in the desk when i got the N9 but now it has been found new life as my z4 "aux in" .. the soundsystem on my Z was so awsome that i need to get my own music to it, so i found the N8 powerfull fm-transmitter cure for that. In this mode (no simcard and no internet connection the battery seems last like one week :) ) and when i managed to find an really free fm-channel the signal is faweless :)

i would never get the iphone.. or anything what apple makes :D

Wow, 36 responses! Thanks for the feedback everyone. Lots to read through there!

One thing I find interesting is what Jammin said about tethering, can you not do this from an iphone 4S? My g/f and I are buying an ipad2 to share (bad idea I know!) for Xmas, only because that really does look the mutts nuts of tablets. But I would like to use my phone's 3G on the tablet...

Is the iphone really £6.66pm better than the S2 aswell? What does it do that the S2 can't? I appreciate the itunes and more apps etc but I think android has more than enough. And Sky Go is also coming to droid very soon which is cool.

lol....If you get an iphone you will be happy enough...if you get any of the others you will be happy enough too..BUT... at some point you will wish you had gone for the iphone. it really is the way it happens with 95% of the andriod lot. I know this because my cousin works at a well known phone outlet and she tells me that people are always trying to get out of android contracts to switch to iphone. The staff are told to push the non iphone stuff because they are over stocked with it.

you can sync iTunes playlists with Android devices...

personally it aint worth the extra for the iPhone.

and no you can't tether from iPhone...
