Hi all, I'm new to this forum and Z4 ownership, and have many questions, but to start how do I connect my iPhone via Bluetooth,
any help appreciated,
thanks

Hi Holly,

The first questions to ask are 1) do you have built in bluetooth in your Z4 (normally fittings in the armrest or you've checked the factory order spec online)? And if so 2) do you have the Bluetooth pairing code card with the car's user manual?

Chris

The factory Bluetooth in an E85/E86 Model Z4 will only connect the phone for phone functions and not for music playback.

IIRC, to make the connection you have to hold down the pairing button in the armrest before turning on the ignition, then turn it on whilst holding the button down. The radio screen will then indicate that it is in pairing mode and you should be able to find the car under your Bluetooth search in the iPhone. You'll then need to enter the passcode supplied with the car to finalise the connection.

If this doesn't work then it's possible that the Bluetooth memory on the car needs to be cleared of old stored phones. There's a procedure for that but I can't remember it (will search on forum later).

If you find you have Bluetooth but don't know the passcode then you'll need to unearth the Bluetooth module behind carpet in the back of the car, as the code is printed on a label there.

Hi Chris,
Yes it has Bluetooth and I have the code when I follow the procedure nothing happens it just a says activate phone on the screen,
Thanks

Ok, so when the car says that, have you gone to your phone > settings > Bluetooth then you'll see a previous list of devices you've connected the phone to, and at the bottom of the list the car should appear as a new device (might be called hands free or BMW something). Click on the car in the list and it should prompt you for the code.

After much faffing, nothing, then connecting, then disconnecting it seems to be working, thanks very much for your help,
Holly x
