Phone bracket

No, the magnet is strong enough to work through the case and is super slim.

These are really good and don't look ridiculous when your phone is not attached like the big brackets do... Clips into air vents! YOSH on eBay

Do you have to keep removing the phone from the case every time :? you put it on the bracket ?

The rubber grip is a a nice tight fit. I have the magnet over the apple logo inside the case. You could put it in the centre too and then you can have the phone horizontal and use the centre air vents...

Brodit clip every time. Had them in every car for as long as I can remember, no holes and so long as your careful no damage when fitting.
A doddle to fit on everything except the Z4 (E86 at least)! If you get the one that attaches to the dash trim there is no flex in the Piano Black trim at all and a real pain to loosen off for access. Once it's on though it's perfect.

Take a look here https://www.brodit.co.uk/brodit/vehicles/BMW/Z4.htm. I've been using one for a while & they're pretty good to be honest.
Hi, could you use this with any kind of case on your phone. Doesn't look you can adjust the width of the part that will hold the phone secure... welcome your thoughts

Hi, mine is one of these so is adjustable https://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=511307. I've always used very slim fitting cases & found that once you set the width it holds the phone in its case perfectly  . Hope that helps.

Yes, thanks for your thoughts. This looks like a more helpful page on their website, I can see these should adjust to a degree and helpful to know it works well for you. Cheers. Paul

I have a reasonably-priced CD-slot mount. TBH I've never used the CD player (not the single slot on the dash of the changer in the centre storage) so works perfect for me. I remember someone one here saying they used one then their CD player broke and were linking the two together, but I can't confirm nor deny.

Me - yup, the owner of the company reckons not compatible with nav head units, which sounds too generic to be correct.

Either way, it broke the loading mech on my E85 nav unit - people with the standard one report success however.
I managed to break a standard head unit! To be fair, I did push it in a little firmly when a CD was in the player - before then it worked well, was perfectly placed for mounting satnav and CDs would play fine with the mount in place. I have tried the mount on another zed with the standard head unit, but it is way too loose and wobbly - yet was fine on the first car :idunno:
Now have a Pure DAB fitted with USB input so CD is redundant - just that I still have nowhere to occasionally mount satnav :(

That's basically what I did, but I didn't really push it too hard - manufacturer and instructions state it can be used with a CD in the head unit, so that's what I tried on the very first attempt as my head unit had a CD inside already.

£90 for a 2nd hand replacement later :x

Buyer beware! Whilst moaning about it I ran into a couple of people who had an identical experience too.
