Philips accident

The media seems to fixated as usual on “poor old Philip”, not much of a mention about the injured in the other apparently innocent car being driven down a main road!

How's the poor bloke supposed to get about without his licence :poke:
Well, they have reduced the speed limit on that road, just need to reduce it on the Sandringham estate now

Sounds like he was just unlucky, pulling out onto a fast road, sun in the eyes. I think both drivers were breathalysed.

A big media fuss over nothing. He's already had a replacement car delivered.

Calls now for drivers over a 'certain age' to have licenses removed. At least the Duke has others who will drive him. All the other poor buggers that live in rural Norfolk villages have to drive well into their 80's and 90's because there's no other way - no buses or Uber. It's very easy to make sweeping statements when you live in a metropolitan area well served by public transport compared to an area where village shops have closed; its a few miles into town and some communities haven't got off dial up internet yet - and don't get me started about the lack of mobile phone signal - 5 bars when I visit my lad in Coventry 1 bar if I'm lucky in some parts of our house is the best I can expect

Worst accident rates are for the age group 17-24. The over 90s are surprisingly safer than most other drivers. Any driver who is deemed to have been more at fault in an incident can be ordered by a court to resit/sit a learner driving test, including a Theory test. Would anyone here pass?

This always happens when an elderly driver is involved in an accident really winds me up :x

My 80 year old mum has been driving for over 50 years and not one accident so why the f**k should she have to re sit her test I would hate to see her reduced to using the bus as I use one every day and its a nightmare especially for the elderly no one giving up seats the drivers causing them to be thrown around when trying to make it to a seat and long waits at bus stops where no one ques anymore.

She has been widowed for 13 years and her little Honda Civic that my dad bought her from new is a life line for shopping and visits to the hairdressers plus every Saturday night her and a friend take it in turns to drive to a restaurant for dinner.

There are quite a few of us old farts driving a Z4 - I hope to be doing so for many years yet. I hope that if my abilities decline I will be able accept it with good grace!

This might open a can of worms but maybe if people cannot drive and would need public transport to get around they should stay closer to places that offer this instead of out in the sticks.
Also maybe in these out of the way areas if people were not so self reliant, buses, taxi firms or uber would move in and set up business, or local shops would open back up to serve those people.

Yes its a can of worms ... and sadly not a practical alternative for many old people who have been rooted in their community for a life time. The way bus contracts are issued results in each route supporting its self instead of one company servicing a wider area. My Mam would rather take her chances driving than face isolation in an urban area. The only saving grace might be driver-less cars.
