Are the stripes to encourage the sheep to run in a straight line?

This works better at keeping them straight.....and less work for the operator. :)

No, they are useless

Anyway, never mind the lawns Ed.
Are you going to Zedfest this year, after all... you have plenty of time on your hands now 😁

I got that John, no need to apologise or even feel it necessary to apologise, I see you as one of the stalwarts on this forum, and I am glad you are back. :)

My P1PE has a 20 inch cut and leaves great stripes, has elec start and looked a bargain when I bought it but never again.

You need at least 18 inch cut for that lawn, mine is hard work to push if the drive comes off which seems to be a popular thing to happen.

I would get a used ride on for £500 and it will save you a lot of time - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294277034875?hash=item448447337b:g:cpoAAOSw7mVg8JZ5

The only issue is that you will need a petrol strimmer to get the grass down to a length the ride on or self propelled machine will cut at the end of winter or if you have had a month of rain.

I hate gardening :|

Time isn’t a problem, I have plenty of that but I’d definitely want a self propelled one. Not interested in a ride on as I’m quite happy with the exercise

I used to say that but have no choice as my garden is split level so a ride on is useless - self propelled is the way to go as mine its just a pain if the belt pops off :|

Well I'm not, miserable old git, the problem with old folk, they've got to much time on their hands.
I'm giving Edward some advice on lawn etiquette and on he comes, stomping all over the nice green thatch. :poke:
Anyway, luckily, I really like John

Ahhhh. You have the Mk11 version, noted for it's sluggish acceleration and tendency to stall in front of fireplaces during cold weather. Can be retro-fitted with an early model kick starter. :D

I've been helping my neighbour cut his lawn with his Honda. It happens to be number 1 on today's Telegraph's list of best mowers:

The best petrol lawnmowers
1. Honda HRG416SK IZY Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower

£418, Lawnmowers Direct
Honda HRG416SK IZY Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower

Honda is known for its reliability. The IZY range are the brand's entry-level petrol lawnmowers, but this model still has a premium feel and is hassle-free to use. It has a 41cm steel cutting deck (suitable for medium sized gardens) and six different cutting heights from 20mm-74mm which can be changed via a simple lever on the side of the machine. With a comparably low weight of 30kg and a foldable handlebar, it’s easy to manoeuvre and store, too. It is powered by a Euro-5 compliant, four-stroke GCVx engine which self-propels the mower at a steady speed of 0.92m/s and has an Auto Choke function which makes it easy to start.

The range also includes larger models with 46cm and 53cm cutting decks, and self-propelled models such as the Honda HRG416PKEH Four-Wheeled Push Rotary Lawnmower (£332, Amazon), which offers the same 41cm cutting deck and efficient mowing power at a slightly lower price.

Not so sure about Mountfields....
I had one that lasted 24 years despite only getting serviced properly 3 times along the way. Then replaced with another that barely lasted 2 seasons of light use and seemed to have a much poorer build quality than the first. Maybe there are good models & bad ones but I'd be wary of buying on the strength of the brand alone.

I think maybe it’s more about getting a Honda engine firstly. Everywhere online that I’ve looked plus a visit to Ripon Farm Services
there seems to be a shortage of the model I want with a time of mid October. Perhaps I’ll just get the local guy to cut it for me

Thanks, took a few hours as there is more than just the pics show. I actually like cutting grass but not the rest that goes with gardening
