If like me you are hacked off by the growing trend for large companies to charge absorbent amounts for trivial paperwork changes then please sign this e-petition for govt regulation.

Not mine, I just stumbled upon it - looks like it could do with some support so please sign an publicise if you agree.

mrs w's motor we get fleeced every switch with chris knott brokers .
not once with classicline on mine though
just another way to milk the customer :x

I just signed up with BMW insurance on my new zed. Premium was as good as the competition, also NO administration charges! They even refunded the administration charge that my old insurance company made for cancelling their policy.

Surely it's in their t&c though which you agree to. Can't see what the government can do about it. If they did ban it, it will just put premiums up more to cover it that way.

Yea I agree if they don't charge it as a fee it will be charges some other way

I added someone on my policy (admiral) the additional premium was £8 the admin was £30
I wouldn't mind but I print my own documents anyway because they are all on line

So that £30 for someone to type another name, not print or post anything

Resistance is futile. The corporate machine will argue that their admin charges allow them to lower the premium for the majority :headbang:

My insurance is all online, I changed the car over to my replacement Z4 and had no fee's or premium to pay.

Its like the bank charges...they charge a ridiculous amount for the work involved. Yes, let them charge it, but as above £30 admin is way too much....I'd like to hear them justify and break that down!

I completely agree with this petition. I think they should not be charging any fees at all, but even if they do, they should be proportionate and reasonable. My insurance wants to charge me £40 for a minor change to the Policy!

I think everyone should sign this if you agree....

It is a private industry so not sure what the government can force?

I've signed it but what good it will do i dont know, but one more signature can only be a good thing!

I whole heartedly agree with it though because I have an online policy where I print off my own docs etc using MY paper and ink, and when I took my private plate off my A3 before i got the Z it cost me £17.60 for someone to type a new reg into their system, then when i got my Z it cost me £17.60 again plus the extra premium to change the details on their system, then when i put my plate on the Z ... yep you guessed it ANOTHER £17.60!!

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask :headbang:

My AXA policy is all online, I make all the changes, so no charges.

I think they should still be allowed to charge when people make changes, but it has to be a reasonable charge. If they remove the charge, they'll just bundle it in the insurance cost of everyone, and if you make no changes you'll be paying anyway.

However, considering the operators are there, employed anyway, and were talking litterally seconds to make the change, I think the reasonable charge is £0.00!

The gov can mandate the FSA to regulate it. Similar things have been done successfully with booking fees, airline surcharges and fees to handle credit/debit charges. The issue is that often the fees are not proportionate and buried deeps in terms and conditions.

The FSA is closing down. Suppose the new FCA could make the charges more explicit
