The wife gave me the go ahead to sell the Zed to fund another car. Mostly interested in something unusual/unique/classic. Been thinking about Caterhams, Westfield's, MGB's, TR4-6. Seen a magenta TR6 on pistonheads. Wild color. But i think one can get away with it in that car. What unusual/unique/classic car would the forum members buy for about 12-13K?

I like my zed. But not enough to keep it. I want something that is fun and has a great driving experience without having to go hyper legal speeds. Then there's constantly being challenged at every green light or twisty b road by a kid with a GTI or Clio sport. Sadly. I have found that I have to work very hard to keep said hot hatches off my arse. Which means that the zed isn't quite as composed nor fast as I once thought it was.

Don't be put off by the Zed not being much quicker than the new crop of hot hatches. They have similar power outputs these days, so it's not surprising. The difference is in the way the Z4 gets there - a 6-pot RWD sports car is so much more characterful than a 4-pot turbo hatch. For me, I'd rather have a lovely sounding engine with instant throttle response (and yes, I've owned both) - even if it is barely any quicker than the latest hatch.

What size engine do you have is it the 3.0? I had my first drive in one the other day and I thought it was so fast in fact I will be picking mine up next Saturday :)

While the quality of the way the car goes might be just as you say. There's a little more to it than that. I have been lucky. I've owned a 1969 Corvette roadster, 1969 Mustang 302 roadster, a 1957 Porsche 356 speedster replica, and a 1950 Plymouth deluxe coupe. The thing about those cars was the fact that they always attracted questions and many a great conversation. That is something I enjoy a lot. The Zed. As nice as it is. Most others view it. (rightly so) as just another BMW.

To the poster that asked about the engine. It's the much maligned and quite unmodifiable N52 3.0si. The only way to make my car faster. Would be an engine swap from a 3.0 and supercharge it. Or from a Z4M.
