Permanent 12v Supply

I am planning on splitting the cigarette lighter wires so I can wire things in permanently but my question is firstly, is there a diagram which clearly illustrates the positive and negative wies in a Z4? There are so many colours and I don't want to get it backwards.

Also has anybody done this? I am slightly concerned about load.

If it's better to go via the fuse box I'll do that.

Piggy-back is the simpliest solution. What is it you're looking to plug in? If it's a dashcam (usually the most likely answer) there is a simplier and cleaner solution using the wires found at the top of the windscreen.
 
+1 on piggy back fuse (fuse tap).

I have 3 in mine ATM (Bluetooth dongle/dashcam/halos).

No permanent cutting required :thumbsup:
 
Thanks for the replies, yeah that was super easy to fit. I'm using the cigarette lighter fuse, can I just connect the piggy back fuse straight to the power on my dash cam? Are the voltage not different? The adapter I have for the cigarette socket is 12v in to 5v out.
 
You need a step down box that converts the 12 to 5; you can pick them up for pennies on amazon.
