Performance Mods - the best way

Hi

Ok so I had a 330 Coupe and at the time I thought a K&N CAI was the way forward, what a noise etc worked great, then the problems started, misfires, MAF problems, 02 sensors, you name it.

So this time with the Z4 3.0 I am staying with good old paper, whats the point in a few months of performance only to find it screws every sensor you have..

Anyway seeing as BMW seemed to have ringed as much out of the M54 as possible, is a better and more practical way to stick with good maintenance?, eg

Always Super unleaded, take your pick which brand
Always BMW spec oil, replacing more regularly
Tyre pressures, tracking etc
For the sake of Paper air filter costs swap more regularly etc
Diff + gearbox oil change
Short throw shift
Decent quality tyres

In the real world is this a more practical way of getting better bang for your buck without endless issues?, for the sake of the cost difference

Cheers

I would advocate light weight wheels....

Its amazing how much faster/ better handling it gives removing unsprung weight.

But i am also with you on the paper filters... Used to swear by k&n filters till it killed a maf on a previous car.

High performance, road-based driver training will make you faster/safer than most performance mods.

Just keep on top of maintenance as per schedule (an extra oil change will be beneficial) be sympathetic with use and use brand petrol along with good quality tyres. RE BMW reco oil - it isn't the best IMO. I have found in previous cars Fuchs oil to be very good, keeps the temps under control from over heating and even after hard track use and mileage comes out the same colour it went it. Unless opening the engine up or blowing it you won't notice any other fiddles through the seat of your pants. The best mod out there for value would be driver trainer, whether road or track based.

I'm so with you on this theme. I driven many randomly uprated, lowered, polly-bushed etc motors that have been ruined for road use or rendered unreliable, but they look good
