Ok brake fluid swap c/w.
Where should I put an apple sticker on my helmet?

One thing I had forgotten about, do ya'll think they'll say anything about my rubber grommets on the strut brace up front being cracked? I seem to recall a post about em way back when that said the cracking was normal...

*edit*
Did a search, found Shipkiller's thread and I'm fairly certain mine is cosmetic due to me poking and prodding and peeking, but there isn't a quick way of verifying without taking the whole damn thing apart is there?

Yup, those early mornings are a bee-atch, but from the day's worth of adrenalin ups & downs, and all the things you'll be trying to think about all day, you'll probably sleep very well tonight! And if you decided to go for the 2-day, I'll bet you won't mind the early rise tomorrow as much!
Just beware of the cold track and the cold tires on your first run in the AM! :o

:fingertap: :fingertap:

Sooooo Aebous - we patiently await your report from your first track day. Hopefully you stayed shiny side up and drove home in the same car you arrived in?

Do be forewarned that while you may have come home still wired from your day you have no idea how tired you really are going to feel after about 1 or 2 beers.

Quick peek....

Actually I'm out of beer, and I was too tired to stop anywhere's to get some on the way home
Ok, so, quick version,
FUN
Ok i'm done.

Nah I'm lying,
So 66.1 miles from my address to the track
Since I twas student, did the high speed lane change thing and got to play on the skidpad....
which was where I learned alot about throttle modulation (DSC/DTC off/on for each set of circles)
Then off to the track, instructor kept it nice an smooth, then we swapped he coached me, I kept it pretty smooth (i was made to stay in 3rd, which is still great in the 3.0)
That's done.
Next heat/race whatever,
I'm following a car with an instructor in it (had to swap out instructors), we started going pretty quick, end of the lap, car in front looses it and takes his S2000 offroading. I continue on, making "ok" lines but I start picking up the pace, then tune it back to work on lines better.
There is some more stuff, but you'll have to wait for the detailed report. I did stay shiny side up, had a blast, passed alot of cars, wondered about some of them, and drove back.

Despite all the hard acceleration, keeping rpms above 3.5k, MPG gauge was around 10 on skidpad/high speed run, 14-16 on the track, I still made it back with my gas tank sitting just shy of a 1/2 tank.

I will be going back tommorow, but sadly I just do not have the funds to race again tommorow unless they can cut me a deal....which I heard they might.

Oh I kinda screwed up on my car number. I should of picked 24 as that vaguely looks like Z4, but I picked 23.....maybe i have some hidden desire to be in a z3?! :o :tumbleweed:

Ok, to whomever said go both days. Thank you    Good advice.

Now pay me $100!

It was great fun, I'll put pics up sometime in the future. Not tonight. If I recall the info correctly, a fast lap by one of the better drivers was 2m50s (or thereabouts) on our last run a new friend an I (he was in a porsche boxter) got to try to keep up with each other. I couldn't pull away from him, and he couldn't quite pull away from me. It was close, and he was a bit better with his breaking and on some corners braver/faster. Nonetheless I gave a great showing and never let him get very far from me, there were a few corners I was just able to handle better than him for some reason and I'd get fairly close to him. Anyways, he had a transponder, said his/our best lap was 3m06s, which ain't to shabby IMO for a couple of rookies on pretty much basic cars. Notable things that run, got passed by a guy in a corvette (can't remember what spec) that drove real real fast fast, and good too. We were also passed by a (I hate to say it) Ford Focus. BUT the guy had a lot of experience in APA??(some racing acronym) and had a modded suspension/engine/tires the works. I tried to keep up with him at one point, but he was able to take every corner a bit faster/better than me and would out accelerate me coming out of the corner. Lo I am now humble.

The fun stuff, I got two tires in the dirt because I got greedy! Then in another corner, I was greedy again and one tire in the dirt. Thankfully no spins, crashes, etc. It was a great time, I will probably tell more when I get the pictures up.....and most likely will start a new thread. Go me!

Quite possibly your best lesson of the day. Fast drivers are better than fast cars. Cars aren't fast until the driver has clue what to do with them :smart:

Very much so, between fast cars and the instructors help prior to that, it helped a ton. They mentioned that too, "sure...point the guy past you, then try to catch him" within your comfort zone of course.

Oh I will say, my most embarrassing moment.....We were going through turns 17-18 and I after getting straight in prep for 18 (on the spring mountain motorsports website) attempted to go to second gear. Well the stick went over but wouldn't go down.....wtf....panic....i make the corner still trying to shove the stick down it just wouldn't go. I straighten up bring the shifter back to neutral....oh I was jamming it past the reverse stop! DOH! The two cars behind me were not happy i think, I think they were waiting for me to point em by (they were right up me bum), but I knew I was faster than them (not counting that time) already so I wasn't doing it.

Good to hear you enjoyed your initiation! I'm glad you went for the 2-day! The second day was better, wasn't it?
On my first track outing, I also had some fun dicing it up with a guy in a Focus SVT. Those little cars are quick through the corners!
Looking forward to seeing the pix when you get a chance to post 'em.

On my first track event at Hallet Raceway (Tulsa) was having 4 wheels off. Ya haven't lived until you do something a stoopid as that AND realize that in all the dust you manage to get back on track, facing the wrong direction. Oh jeeez! I understood why good corner workers are so necessary. I also learned that as good as I thought I was on the track...I never got close to driving 8 tenths. The other was that the Z4's can be driven very hard, much harder than I dreamed possible. These are excellent cars.

Glad to read you had a great time.

True that!

It was just amazing to me when my instructor took the wheel, and drove my car around the track at *maybe* 7/10.

me--> :o :driving: <--him

I never had a clue of the real potential of the car before that. It really is an outstanding vehicle.

Yeah I didn't think to ask an instructor to drive it at 7 or 8/10. I should of. still went pretty quick on the second day though :D
