Peoples opinions on mileage...

Hi!

I'm new to the forum and the 'M' cars so you might have to excuse my lack of knowledge :-).

Today I went to look at a Z4M coupe at a garage with 60k on the clock. I didn't really have any intention of being interesting in it I was just going for a browse as it was local. I was shocked at how good the condition of it was. It felt tight, bodywork was superb and the interior looked really good with no bolster wear to speak of. To me it could easily have had 30k and I wouldn't of been surprised at all.

My question is would you guys say that mileage is an issue given the condition? In the past I've looked at cars with half that mileage in imo awful condition.

Do the Z4M's become a bit leggy onwards of this mileage or is there still plenty of good life in the car.

It had full BMWSH with the run in service at 1160 miles.

Thanks

Stuart

I wouldnt be concerned about 60k. Fair play I don't own an ///M, but plenty M3s make it well past 100k with few issues

Welcome to the forum! That sort of mileage is fine if you've got a full service history. If you want to be really sure, take out a warranty to go with it if it's not being offered with one.

An M Coupe is a marvellous car, and probably one that will hold its value so if you like it and it's sound, go for it!

I'm with all of the above... Mileage shouldn't be an issue so long as the car has been properly serviced along the way...

always buy on condition & paperwork ,
not just a dealer stamp .
i like to see as many receipts as poss & if all that is in order mileage is irrelevant ( within reason )
a big no-no is requiring cosmetics , cheapo tyres & needing a service  screams out someone who couldn't or wouldn't look after the car as i would have liked , , ,1 of the above maybe but all 3 are a walkaway :x

Mine is for sale with 58,000 miles ( see the for sale section) and it runs beautifully. The miles are mainly motorway runs at low revs and I think thats much better for a car than sat in a garage for days on end not going anywhere.

Its things that have been mentioned that have drawn me in. All tyres are conti m3's with good tread. Not the greatest tyres but its obvious the previous owner hasnt skimped on budgets and stayed OEM. Also one previous owner is also an encouraging part.

I might have to return for another look and have a good look through receipts etc. I didn't want to continue interest if they become tired/ long in the tooth over a certain mileage.

Thanks for your comments

their are plenty of usa owners that strap turbos and superchargers to these engine @ 90k+ miles and they go on for another 100k!! dont worry, 60k is nothing as long as the cars been looked after!! go on history, go on number of owners, dont worry about mileage, most are high now....After seeing my engine opened up (10k miles) to another one in the shop 55k miles i think it was, simpson pointed out just how good this well used engine looked internally, it was properly clean, it was a motorway car that the owner cained reguarly.

mileage is not the main issue. Full service history with running in service, low number of owners, OEM or good quality tyres etc and good interior and bodywork. There are some great Z4Ms about for not a lot of money.

tired ? long in the tooth ? have you owned bmw's before ? not to mention the engine you would inherit being legendary

The only caveats I would have are:
1) Is it due an Inspection 2 soon? Some people get rid of cars just before a big service is due
2) The BMW warranty price for M cars becomes significantly more expensive after 60k miles, although I believe if you do the monthly payment option it doesn't go up? Can anyone confirm?

It has already had its inspection 2. That is one thing I checked. A lot of ones I have seen are due the inspection 2 soon.

Another question is what is the average life of the clutch in the z4m?

Might be wrong but isn't 60k closer to Insp3.. mine's due now & pretty sure it was just oil last time, although I think mine's a bit early :driving:

2) the price doesn't go up, but the list of things that are covered gets even smaller (even with the supposedly "comprehensive" cover). More things are classed as wear-and-tear items, for example.
