Dont you think that when you meet people you can pretty much tell if they smoke weed??
Ignoring deductions made on appearance & behaviour, I think regular smokers are pretty obvious because the smell sticks to them, occasional smokers less so...
I think you can spot people who have smoked it regularly in the past and given up too.
Not just on looks though but by talking to them.
A little bit like ex-junkies, they still seem to carry the look and speech with them forever

I'm sorry but that is utter nonsense. I won't tell you what I got up to in my younger days, but that hasn't stopped me going on and achieving success - and there is no way you would ever know a thing about my past. A few months ago I told a good friend who I've known a while now and he didn't believe me.

As far as the smell etc and the blatent use of it. I don't like it. It should be confined to your house or specially designated areas...even more so that smoking cigs.

I know a couple of people who use it for medical reasons and you would never know they use it. That's because they use it in small quantities for medical reasons where it can do some good for pain.

Not utter nonsense, just a difference of opinion.
And just because a friend of yours wouldnt believe what you might have done in the past, doesnt mean to say someone else couldnt spot something.
I never said you can spot everybody either, in saying that I havnt met everybody yet either :)

I smell it in the streets all the time. It has become a lot more common, and dare I say 'acceptable'. The smell doesn't offend me, nor do those who smoke it - mostly - but I also smell it coming from cars either as I walk past or sitting in traffic... and that pisses me right off.

I also happen to agree with Mr Jedi above

Lol tru dat.
Huge generalisation to claim to be able to identify all ex stoners.
My dad smoked his share in the 60's and my sister 'Dawn' was conceived at Woodstock to a live Jimi Hendrix backing track. Lucky betch. Dad went on to be a very succesful executive at Shell and then with his own engineering consultancy.
I toked my way through university attaining a 2:1 with honours and have gone on to make good including standing and making presentations in front of hundreds at the OTC and adipec conferences as well as running my own business.
Never has anyone suggested to me that they thought i might have ever been a stoner, nor my dad.
I think shallow and misinformed opinionating and assumptions about someone's particular demeanour is highly offensive and just plain wrong as, for example MS sufferers can come appear 'drunk' or under the influence of class c drugs etc.

I dont know if you can spot people that used to be extreme stoners, but in general certain types are drawn to cannabis. So maybe that can cause for confusion.
As for the dangers: I dont know about real physical danger (besides dangers connecting to smoking in general), but I think it changes your character with considerable use. I think it makes people more indifferent and that messes with someone's potential and life achievements.
I know thats a very indirect subjective property to measure.
But I do believe that one can work themselves out of such a lifestyle. If that can lead to the same success/potential? probably not because you threw away some years in your personal development.

Obviously loads of cannabis smoking going around where I live (and lived, and the scent is here pretty much tied to the streets, depending on the neighbourhood)
(although I'm not a stoner)

Your son needs a clump on the head from his father.
Unfortunately life is not always that simple.

As the father of a 17 year old son, I agree. Not least because he's bigger than me :D

for me its the acceptability of something that we know makes you vulnerable, and i see it so often with teens in cars driving!!!!!

i actually hate the stuff, i wont go into shops that sell bongs/ xl rizla papers and the such, (usually community shops on the corners of streets)

it may or may not lead to harder drugs, but it sure is organised by crime bosses, even if it were legal to use, worldwide its still the product of crime.
Afghanistan, is a major player never mind South America, :headbang:

Sorry, I wont be at zedfest. Theres nothing to bite at either , its just differences of opinion, and I am only going on my experiences.
I was surrounded by it all and worse while growing up and thankfully I managed to stay away from it all.
As for any ex stoner being successful, just look at Howard Marks
