Im at my wits end with a 2006 1.4 TDCI fiesta.
Wanted something a bit cheaper to run and not use the Z as the weather worsens so i bought a little diesel fiesta. I was driving from Nottingham to Aberdeen when at Sterling it put a con rod through the block . i had the car towed home and set about finding an engine. I found one locally and bought it. After removing the engine it became apparent that the replacement engine was the wrong type..i had bought a F6JA engine when i needed a F6JB I then found the correct type of engine (not so locally) and it fitted perfectly apart from the crank sensor which i replaced with the right one. After fitting and putting oil and coolant in..i tried to start it.....WONT START...just got a flashing engine management light. Im totally sick of it!!! I aint a clue what to do next :(
Three Engines, swapped two, spent a fortune and im still bloody clueless!!!!!!!!!

 Sorry to hear that, not good news Hunter, had similar with an old MG Metro a few years back, two replacement engines, got it working then the bodywork started giving way. Scrapped it 2 years later. Good luck with solving your Fiesta.... you'd think a 6 year old diesel engine would be pretty bomb-proof :o

Might be worth getting a mobile diagnostics guy out to it to locate what the problem is, maybe a case of throwing good money after bad but could also turn out to be something simple.

Edit, maybe teaching my gran to suck eggs here but don't diesels need to be fuel bled ?? is that maybe the issue ?

I had an engine change back in the day on a 306. They guy forgot to change the flywheel over which held the immobilizer chip. Probably not that but worth looking into.

Cheers guys, the engine i have bought only has 20k on it...so i do hope i get it going....will have to wait till im back on dry land though.....

I was looking at autotrader this morning for a cheap diesel run about... no more then 6K with a bigish boot... narrowed it down to a focus or a toyota auris.

After reading this maybe i wont bother, i live with my winter wheels

Why was the crank sensor incorrect???

If it fits in a slightly different position, are you sure what it picks up on(probably reluctor on flywheel?) is in the correct position?

as my own rule of thumb i would avoid small diesel engines ( under 1.5 ) & go for a petrol 1000/1500 ?
no guts in either but the petrol car will be cheaper to buy & for the service/repair bills over 3 years/40k miles .

Im pretty much repairing high pressure diesels all day..(Not by choice, but thats whats breaking down!!).

They are crap to be honest...All reliability has now gone....

A lot of manufacturers are now bailing out of diesel engines....They are too complicated to meet emissions regulations and maintain MPG and power, petrol for the win!
