Pebble Beach Winners

Rover2012-1.jpg

Just thought as we were showing old cars Id show mine- this is the same as mine only mine is maroon- dot have any digital pics of it! It is a 1946 rover 12hp and yes that 12hp stand for horse power!

Beautiful old British car.

Corrct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure an engineer will) but isn't the 12hp you quote actually the RAC measure for tax purposes dating back to the early days of UK cars, rather than the actual output of the engine? Of course as engines got more efficient this measure persisted but vastly underestimated the real power. A horse itself produces between <1 and 30hp.

u r right cj- it is measured in the old school style-probly equates to about 40bhp. still not alot for 2 tonnes of car!

those old bugatti worth thier weight in diamonds, a superb rare peice of machine. certainly better than the new so called "bugatti" veyron.
here is a nice story about a multi million barn find

It never fails to amaze me how back in those days tyre technology was so far behind the ability to hand craft aerodynamic and beautiful cars.
Scroll back through the pictures and look at the bicycle tyres unde some of those bodies, in particular the 30's /40's cars
